Sony to Slash Jobs in Europe
Reuters [http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2007-04-18-sony-jobs_N.htm] has reported today that Sony Computer Entertainment may soon cut up to 160 workers, or 8.4 percent of its workforce, in Europe.
SCE spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka said the cuts were not related to Playstation 3 sales, which have lagged behind those of the latest offerings of Nintendo and Microsoft. He said the cuts were instead part of a greater orientation toward more online distribution.
Fukuoka also added that further "streamlining" may be brought to the European and North American divisions.
The announcement follows on the heels of news that the president of SCE's Italian Division, Corrado Buonanno, is leaving the company after a 12 year reign, as reported by Gamesindustry.biz [http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=24255]
