I'm at work and don't have enough time to hunt around looking for articles and twitter posts but I thought someone should bring this up. Been hearing that several companies that were to go to E3 are pulling out.

There's value to tradeshows in many industries, but with the rise of streaming, Youtube, and "influencers", there's very little that gaming needs professional reviewers for anymore, and the last few years of E3 have reflected that in how its been opened up to the public and some companies have branched off to do their own thing. Corona-virus is making everyone panic, which is a good excuse for these companies to do a check on whether spending lavishly and chaining their development schedule to E3 demos is actually worthwhile. My guess is they'll see that it isn't, and E3 will break up as companies move forward to host their own events in the future.

Meh, can't say I'm surprised, or that I particularly care. E3 hasn't been relevant to me in years, and seeing how several big names don't even bother showing anymore, at least part of the industry seems to agree.

I am not surprised at all. This is not bother me at all. Video games are not worth the health risk for the coronavirus. besides, I mostly check online for updates about certain games or new ones coming out anyway. That said, I do miss the old e3. Except for the E for all back in 2008 and 2009. Those were boring as fuck. Any remember those dark times?

Fitting that an actual disease would cause the cancellation of the event that has served as little more than a celebration of the figurative cancers of the industry for nigh a decade.

E3 will still sort of happen as all the companies will have their little direct shows to announce the same bullshit they announce every year. So this only really affects the public that would have bought tickets to a dying event.

Game announcement season will still happen.

First it came for the boomers, and I didn't speak up because they keep voting us into our own oblivion.
Then it came for our videogames, and I didn't speak up because fuck videogames.
I don't know where I was going with this.
Bollocks.

Probably. At least the big three will. There's a Nintendo Direct slated for next week, or the week after. Sony was already not attending E3 so they've likely been planning an event of their own. Nothing on Microsoft so far, but they could easily set up something of their own.

I mean so? Its E3. The only people who ever cared were journalists looking to get big boy points with Devs in backroom meetings, and YouTube channels of 3 dudes and a ladytype sitting in a room filled with DC toys all going "NO WAY!" to every damn announcement.
Hell the AAA industry stopped caring about E3 years ago. Honestly they should just close it down and let it stay shut.

Oooof. I'm not insanely surprised, everything else is being cancelled due to the virus, why not this? Not like it will matter. I'm pretty sure a few companies already announced they'll just do their own thing online.

Wonder if E3 will then happen next year.

Okay so can someone fact check this? The Quartering posted a video where he claims a Camgirl was told over a week ago E3 was cancelled, and that its not because of T Virus scares? Sounds crazy enough to be true, but also Quartering...

Yeah, that guy never meets halfway with the truth. Unless it's his own warped version of the "truth". I would not rely on him for anything.
