Spawn camping is the worst, most underhanded downright despicable thing ever......when they do it.

First ever attempt at creating a thread so do bear with me people.

Throughout my online gaming life I've always, always ferociously attacked "underhanded" gaming tactics as the refugee of the talentless and cowardly-spawn camping, regular camping, COD style knife berserker fests, dirty magazine ambushes in MGO etc etc. I've ranted about the scumbags who resort to such unsporting play until I'm blue in the face and I've even physically attacked friends reknowned within the social circles I inhabit for being proud campers.....err all in the spirit of good friendship you understand (yeah court didn't buy that either).

But I will make a shocking confession-I have done all of those things myself, quite a few times and even enjoyed it-oh the shame! Don't look at me!

In fact when I was camping in a house, stabbing enemy players in the back as they came out of their spawn to oggle the Playboy magazines I had cunningly placed in MGO I realised I was having a real laugh and more fun then if I had been playing the game properly!

Anyone else have any similar experiences? A gaming tactic you absolutely hate and then when no-one's looking shamefully carry out?

I absolutely hate noob tubers in CoD, but do it myself whenever I end up in Nuketown. Or did, until my clan started giving me shit for it :p
Other than that, I try and avoid the really dirty and frustrating tactics, simply because I really hate it when others use them.

/edit in response to the post below me
Haha yeah, it is pretty broken, even with the addition of Flak Jacket. I wouldn't keep playing it, save that most of my friends do, and being able to screw around with them is a lot of fun.

None that I can think of. I'm of the firm opinion that a well designed game isn't going to have any broken tactics; if you've ever played TF2, for example, you've played a game where Spawn camping is actually a fair strategy, rather than a major flaw in the game design. The whole n00b tubing thing in MW2 is hilarious to me, because I've never seen a game where people complain about the weapons like that; in most other games, there's something to balance the one hit kill weapons. My opinion on this is if you don't want people to utilize game breaking tactics, quit playing broken games. There's enough shining examples of quality game design out there that you don't have to play the crappy ones, unless you really want to. But if you do want to, don't complain that people are utilizing a broken strategy.

I actually try not to use things that feel too easy, i.e Grenade Launchers in CoD, the reason being i get really annoyed when i get stuck in a match with 5 players only using Grenade launchers and RPG's so i dont really want to do that to another player, also it so much more satisfying to bust a cap in their ass

Complaining about AWP whores until one map I got so pissed off I picked up an awp myself and proceeded to annihiliate the entire enemy team three maps in a row.

Haven't played CS in a while now, but good times.

I do miss the tactical shield though.

If it's in a semi-balanced game, then no tactic is completely unbalanced. I play Tf2 frequently, and on some maps, a spawncamper can completely ruin your day.

BUT, the game is set up so that you can switch classes and break through with coordination and determination. A single uber and a good heavy can almost always break a blockade like that, plus DR spies and you've got a broken spawn-camping. THe only reason you wouldn't break out is if your team is less coordinated than the other team, because the game is based on skill.

That said, things like glitches or underhanded tactics, like breaking out of the map, the infamous Care-package melee glitch from MW2, when TF2 was broken to allow engineers to build unlimited sentry guns, or even MW2's Javelin glitch, are cheap. And I don't like when people do stuff like that.

But the OP's tactic of strategically placed items to draw the enemies attention is similar to the CnD spy spraying boobs on the wall, then stabbing someone who comes to look, which is totally legit.

Annnd, of course I type up my whole response before looking at the other posts, but I agree completely with this. V

Noob-tubes, I love them, and I am pro with them too. If a complete novice can slaughter pros with a m203, imagine the mass murder that I a M203 Master unleash. To the disdain of even my own team.

i never use noob tactics mainly because i hate them but also i just not that good at them and don't enjoy them. sure i might noobtube for an extra couple of kill per game but its just not fun. that said all i do in mw2 is knife. i honestly dont understand why this is considered nooby anyone can point a gun at me if i go to stab them all they have to do is be alert. if you get stabbed a lot its because you not looking around enough. knifing i find is enjoyable because its a challenge. i don't camp or noob tube i run around the map in S&D looking for people. if im not killed its beause people don look around properly.

One occasion comes to mind.

Waaaay back in the Halo:CE demo I used to get really annoyed when people went spawn-killing in banshees. One time it happened to me for about five minutes straight. I politely asked them to stop. Then I impolitely asked them to stop. Then I took a banshee and mercilessly camped their spawn until they all quit the server.

It felt kind of dirty, but damn it was satisfying.

if spawn-camping is possible, then something is deeply flawed within the gameplay. Quake-Arena got it right a long, long time ago by making spawn-points completely random.

None come to mind...

But some shits once accused me of being a camping noob when owning with an AWP. Fuck you! Picked up a Scout... continued with the owning. Yeah STFU!

For CoD:WaW, I have rage-quitted many a time for dicks spawn-camping, but don't actually find it fun to do.

i have spawn camped once and it was entirely accidental. I wouldn't even say it was spawn camping tbh. It was in Black Ops this morning, I tomahawked someone and the moment they fell, another person spawned off them who I stabbed before they could react.

As for doing it intentionally..well I have hit people after the K.O in Soul Calibur 4 (something that frustrates me to no end) but that was only done after they had been tea-bagging and after-hitting repeatedly. I have only so much patience and tea-bagging and after hitting is the best way to hit my rage button.

In Halo when I hog the sniper, it's quite rare I do try to keep it all to myself but when I am I feel like I'm being a bit of a dick.

TF2 being a demoman and putting down traps, then retreating back into the trap. I guess it's how the sticky launcher is meant to be used but I hate getting killed by the same tactic. Now I think about it I generally don't like being killed with any sort of tactic involved.

In halo reach a few guys decided too start charging plasma pistols and punching me. Thats annoying becuase a PP disables shields and the melee 1 hit kills with no shields.

I then did it to them, infact I went further and camped where their banshee spawned for being dicks.
I personally don't find that dickish. Its a good strategy. And well within the rules.

I can and will use any loadouts/weapon combos that give me the best chance to rack up the kills and not get killed myself. I paid for the game, so don't tell me what I can and can't use/do unless it goes against the Developer/Publisher Terms of Use and/or Dedicated Server rules.

I am however against Spawn killing in anything but Attack/Defend style games. On BOTH sides.

I don't see why the "noob tube" is a noob weapon, I could never get any hits off of it >_> I generally just deal with campers or whatever, except spawn campers in which case I just leave the current game.

I never got really angry about any 'underhand' tactics, but i didn't use them. Now I've come to the view that as long as all you are doing is exploiting the gameplay mechanics then its fine. Only actual cheating gets me angry.

dirty magazine ambushes in MGO
What's wrong with mag ambushes? It's what they're there for.

I've spawn camped Vamp as Raiden in MGO a few times which is apparently a no-no. Despite the fact he could easily run the other way instead of fighting, but whatever.

And after a bad day I've dashboarded a few times in AC4, though I always feel bad about it afterward.
