Spike TV 2007 Video Game Award Winners Announced

Bioshock, Harmonix and Halo 3 dominated the Spike TV 2007 Video Game Awards.

At the 2007 Spike TV Video Game Awards (VGAs), the annual bevy of celebrities hit the stage to host, entertain and flaunt their C-list status to the hordes of gaming onlookers. Once again, Samuel L. Jackson hosted the event that also starred the Foo Fighters; Kid Rock; Dave Navarro; comedians Patton Oswalt, Ralphie May and Brian Posehn; wrestler Kurt Angle; and model Tila Tequila. Irrational Games' Bioshock garnered the most praise from the ceremony, winning Game of the Year, Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Original Score. Harmonix also won a combined three awards for Rock Band and Studio of the Year. Runner-ups for all-around award winning would be Halo 3, The Orange Box, Call of Duty and Super Mario Galaxy with two categories each.

I'd have to say some of these awards piss me off. Not because of the winner but rather that they exist in the first place. "Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show"? "Best Rhythm Game"?

Though I dont expect much from Spike, I was surprised that Halo 3 DIDNT win game of the year. I love how most of the winners were American games. Hmm....

Given that category had less nominations than the others, its surprising WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2008 wasnt put in there. Is there any reason that it wasnt nominated for anything other than Spike TV being upset about losing RAW programming from its network?

I do think a lot of the categories are pretty pointless though, especially as some games will have come out after the shortlisting so its not even really a Best of 2007.
