Spike VGA Winners List And Some Brütal Action

Another year, another edition of the Spike Video Game Awards, and the full list of winners for 2008 is now available at the Spike TV website.

Running every year since 2004, the Spike VGAs are both one of the highest-profile and lowest-brow videogaming awards in existence, but the promised debut of the first Brütal Legend [http://www.spike.com/event/vga/] gameplay trailer provided gamers with a bit more incentive than usual to watch. In years past I'd made it a point to avoid the show; this year, unfortunately, I missed out on it because of a surprise dinner invitation.

Luckily for me, and for everyone else out there who had the bad luck or good sense to do something else with their time, Spike has made the full list of winners available at its website. A few highlights: LittleBigPlanet took the award for "Best PlayStation 3 Game," while Gears of War 2 won for "Best Xbox 360 Game," Boom Blox took the title for "Best Wii Game" and Left 4 Dead got the nod for "Best PC Game." In an interesting twist, Media Molecule was chosen as "Studio of the Year," beating out others including Grand Theft Auto IV developer Rockstar North, yet Grand Theft Auto IV went home with "Game of the Year" over luminaries including LittleBigPlanet, developed by Media Molecule.

Confusing me even further is the fact that "Game of the Year" contender Fallout 3 was also in the running for "Best Xbox 360 Game," but failed to gain a nomination in either the PlayStation 3 or PC categories, which were left to lesser titles like Resistance 2, Crysis Warhead and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Telling as well, although whether or not studios will pay attention, is the fact that none of the "Big Name in the Game" nominees, either male or female, were nominated for the "Best Performance By A Human" award.

The full list of winners (and losers) is available at the VideoGamer.com [http://www.spike.com/event/vga/].

I don't even have to check them to know that the winners will be various flavors of...

Grand Theft Auto 4
Fallout 3
and Gears of War 2

Spike has no subtlety and no taste in games.

1. Stephen Fry is a big name.
2. He should have won best performance.

In the only category that matters, they at least chose the right game. Of course I'm talking about graphics. MGS4 is the best looking game of all time.(complain all you want about gameplay and story that game looks good) Score and Soundtrack are also important categories and I really have nothing against thier nominees or winners.(MGS4 and RockBand2 but LBP would have been a good choice too for both categories.)

They have awards for voice acting but nothing for animation.(Sackboy in LBP wins that for me off the top of my head) No awards for art design.(again LBP would be a solid choice) And no awards honoring story or writing.(although without a new half life or portal this was an incredibly weak year for writing in videogames)

I concur the the 3rd power! The driving seems a bit weak to me though, but who cares about the driving? Right....?

the God of War III and Uncharted: Among Theives trailers were awesome to. Can't wait for those.

i was happy that L4D won multiplayer and PC game (altho they were obvious) but once again i disagree with all the game of the year results, maybe im just not hip and cool with the homiees...

How on earth could anything award so much to GTA IV? Particularly in the voice acting department. MGS4 did get OST and graphics, I think I'd have been super outraged if it hadn't.

Well I suppose it has to have a certain readership or something to excuse some of those choices.
