Conviction was due out at Holiday 2007. Maybe it took them 2 years to put in the ads :p

I agree with the lot. It has to blend in. Someone pointed out that the poster in that bathroom is too clean, and that is NOT blending in. Also, I don't want it the load screens or anywhere that I would have to look at it for extended periods of time.

Alas, GTA has it right with their fake ads. All the crazy humour is the way to go, although I see how that could be out of place in Splinter Cell.

Well, if they're anything like the ones in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, or Rainbow Six Vegas 2, then I wouldn't complain.
I was about to say, UbiSoft is actually really good with not making in-game ads overly intrusive nowadays, and I'd rather have real ads over fake in games that are supposed to be taking place "in the real world" like Splinter Cell as opposed to the alternate world created for laughs like GTA or Saints Row which can get away with making parody ads.

Saints Row 2 had parody ads, but they also had billboards with real ads that updated themselves. That was actually pretty cool as one of them was my local internet provider!

Also, NHL 09 and 10 have real ads on the board sometimes. I like it.

I remember a lot of people complaining about advertisements in Guitar Hero 3, which completely annoyed me. If you're looking at the billboards in the background, you're not playing the game right.

It's fine, because it adds realism to the game. Take MW2, for example. It had ads in the airport, and other areas. Realistically, they'd put adds there. As D4 said, as long as they don't stop the game, I'm fine with advertisements. Also, with my first point, look at a racing game. Those are filled to the brim with advertisements.
But those were ads for completely fictional items.

Want some eerily-familiar-looking Diet Cola?

Sure. It ain't Coke tho'.

Is it just me or is "Dickstien" subsequently the best and worst last name in the universe?

A game can have so many advertisements the characters go "Hmmm i wouldn't mind for a coke right now" it's better then fucking monthly fees or forced expensive DLC any day of the millennium.

I agree with the latter it dous add to the realism and authenticity to the game but as long as it dousent go overboard like bionic commando did.

I just can't wait to hear the in game conversations.

Terrorist 1: "hey do you know what I like to do after breaking into a building and taking dozens of people hostage?"

Terrorist 2: " No, what?"

Terrorist 1: "Quenching my thirst with a cold refreshing Coca-Cola."
