Square Enix Account Management System--A plea for help turned rant

Okay, so I just got accepted into the Final Fantasy XIV Beta, and it's telling me I have to put in a Square Enix ID and a one-time password. The One-time Password comes from the Square Enix Account Management system, either from a generator thingy you have to order or an app you can use on your smartphone.

I have the account set up, but I can't get the phone thing activated, and it's driving me absolutely INSANE. I'm caught in a horrible loop. So I made an account for the smartphone thing, and it tells me I need to confirm it with a one-time password obtained from the Account Management System. But I can't log into the Management system without a one-time password, which I can't get until I have the software activated on my phone!

What the fuck is going on with this? Has anyone else used this system before? What did you do to activate your account? How did you get the smartphone app to work? It's the most impenetrable security system I've ever encountered online.

EDIT: Okay, I think I've got it under control. I've got my account accessed, but apparently I can't obtain a one-time password unless I have their password keyring thing (fuck that, I'm not waiting for that in the mail), or with that smartphone app. And the smartphone app can only be activated if I have the product key for FFXI or FFXIV. I have pre-ordered FFXIV digitally, but I don't have a product key because I can't install it yet because it's not out yet. And I've lost my FFXI product key from like more than 8 years ago.

So now I'm reinstalling Playonline from a disc I happened to keep, and I'm going to try and reactivate my old FFXI account. I somehow remembered my Playonline ID (I think, not totally sure at this point), but apparently you can't authorize the account unless you remember your password too. You can't reset your password through the Account Management system, which is why I'm reinstalling PlayOnline so that I can reset it that way.

At this point, I'm hoping for the following--

- That Playonline installs and updates properly
- That I've remembered my ID correctly
- That it lets me reset my password
- That I can then link the account with my Square Enix account, thus giving me the go-ahead to use the smartphone app.

So now I have a question. For those of you who've played the FFXIV beta--how the fuck did you get your one-time password? Did you order that stupid keyring? Do you have the smartphone app? What the fuck is up with that, anyway?

Ok I've been in the beta and I didn't ever need to use the one time password thing. I'm pretty sure it isn't necessary just leave it blank

Ach...you're right. The last time I tried to do that, I put in the wrong Square Enix ID. If you register for na.squareenix.com or whatever, you get a certain account with a certain Square ID. If you register with the account management system, you get another. I was putting in the wrong one.

In other news, SQUARE. WHY YOU SO FUCKING CONFUSING.

-_- Good night, and thank you ShinyCharizard.

Yeah it certainly is a crappy and confusing system. But then again it's Square Enix. Crappy and confusing is what they do best.

Anyway no problem happy to help.
