Square Enix Site Launches Holiday Sale

Get Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PC for $15. Or, if you want to go real old school, a PS1 copy of Chrono Cross for $7.50.

Square Enix is getting in on the holiday discount spirit, with 50 percent off a whole bunch of its inventory at its online store. Several recent hits are available, like well-received MMO reboot Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, for $15 as either a PC download or physical copy. The PS3 version can be had for $20. Tomb Raider is also up for grabs for $15 as a PC download or $20 for a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy. The sale lasts until Jan. 5 and includes free shipping for orders over $100 to all of the lower 48 American states.

While some of you are certainly saving up your money for the annual tradition that is the <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130701-Steam-Holiday-Sale-Kicks-Off>Steam Holiday Sale, Square Enix's catalog actually includes several older gems you won't find on Valve's service. If you still have a PS2 lying around, you can grab a copy of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for $10. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the PSP remake of the first game in the series, can be had for $15.

And for you PS1 RPG fans, Chrono Trigger sequel Chrono Cross is available for a mere $7.50. And speaking of Chrono Trigger, that's available as part of PS1 compilation Final Fantasy Chronicles, where it's packaged with Final Fantasy IV, for $7.50. Same goes for the PS1's Final Fantasy Anthology, which includes Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI. While most of these games have been repackaged again by Square since their release, there's still some good deals to be had by nostalgic JRPG fans this holiday season.

Happily, I kept all my old games and have just about all of the above listed. >.> It's interesting they're selling PS1 and 2 hard copy titles though, that's really pretty awesome. I still might do some shopping.

If someone does decide to get FFXIV (which I highly recommend, it just had a massive content update that fixed a lot of problems, and another one is due in about 3 months), message me. We have a Free Company (Guild) on the Malboro server of Escapist members and are quite active. All levels of skill and experience. Some people new to MMOs in general, even. And the new patch encourages levelling new jobs, so many of us are starting new classes at level 1 so it's a great time for new people to join.

Are those proper physical PS1 copies of Chrono Cross that they're selling? I need to know. Because if so, I'm so buying a copy.

I suppose I should stop being lazy and get FFXIV finally.

I don't believe I own FFVI yet, so maybe it would be a good time to snag it now.

EDIT: Reading comprehension, FTW!

If those are physical copies of chrono cross, everyone must buy them. $7.50 for that game is a steal, tons of fun and one of the few NG+ modes that make you want to play it again and again.

..So. Chrono Cross is in reprint.

I've got to do something about this.

But can someone please tell me, was FF14.. that bad? I can't remember if I've played it yet, but it is just a reboot of 11 (ie, you can use your same characters, same world, ect) or is it a completely seperate game?

If you are going to get the game and want people to play with, The Escapist has an active Free Company. Check out our Group Page [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Final-Fantasy-XIV-A-Realm-Reborn].

I can't vouch for 1.0, but FFXIV:ARR is great so far. It is an entirely separate game from FFXI.

Totally different. I stopped playing FFXI in 2004 though, when WoW came out. But it's much improved. The devs are very active and communicative with the fans and changes and balances are made often. There are also events and massive content updates quite often. The big one just hit this week, and the game only released at the end of August. Much recommended. If you get it, all the Escapists play on Malboro, so send me or Church above a message. Or @Miyenne.

Protip for Europeans!

The EU version of that store page (https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_europe/games/) is generally even cheaper.
Deus ex: human revolution director's cut for example is $5 on there. That's $5 cheaper than both the US store linked in the article and steam, even with the winter sale discount. Though on steam it's likely to become a daily deal at some point and thus drop to $5 too.

Note: for simplicity I'm using the 1 euro = 1 dollar conversion here.

Hmmm....tempting...

I've never played an MMO before to be honest, and I don't really have a whole lot of time to play games. So I would probably piss a lot of people for my schizophrenic gaming ways. :D

We mostly play with guildies, and we're a pretty patient bunch. Like I said, if you decide to play the game, hit us up.

Oh what the hell, I'll stop on by when I eventually get it and see who's willing to put up with my BS. :D

Thanks!

I just ordered that since I love having physical copies of games so I got that and the Final Fantasy Chronicles.

OT: Well this finally caused me to get a Square Enix account.

I set up an account, but apparently Australians need to pay full price for everything. I wonder if we'll get a sale at all? Shame.

They can put up with me, and I've listened to, and mimicked, the likes of George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison and so forth. @Miyenne or @IndomitableSam are on pretty frequently, as am I, so like Church said: hit us up when you get a chance.

Except that the EU version of the store doesn't have any of this stuff (for a few brief moments I thought Chrono Cross might be landing on UK shores HA HA HA HA HA HAH AHA); all we get is what's in the Steam Sale already. Grr.
