Yeah it is too far away...will be interesting as more details of the game come in. I just hope that 2021 is actually a realistic release date. It will be hard to top the last STALKER but this time they have a lot of influences to take from. Hopefully it will keep the good game mechanics, and maintain its challenge and hopeless post-apocalyptic survivor vibe, as it's definitely a pioneer in the genre. It will be hard to pick and choose what kind of mechanics and features to keep without making the game too bloated and/or tedious to play, and also stand on it's own as a survivor game.

OMGOMG OMG YES YES YES YES!! Best news EVER!!
sequel to greatest game ever made.

2021 is too far away...

I thought that was Deus Ex my friend...

Anyways, cool news. Hopefully they take the best of everything they?ve learned from SoC through Metro Exodus, and then some. But then again, they?ve said they were making STALKER 2 before years ago and we ended up with other games.

Made.
My.
Day.

How bloody great is that. It's weird to think that the fourth game in a series will be numbered 2, but I get it. I wonder what a a 2020 trip to The Zone will look like on our 1180Tis. They were great games that captured an aesthetic, an atmosphere, a feeling and mixed it with fun gameplay and combat and a cool metagame. I hope it has a lot of the same team leads.

Seriously tho, good news. I ask myself if I could bear a sequel for some of yesteryear's best games...like could there be a modern sequel/remake of Prince of Persia, with it being Ubisofted?

We'll have to see what happens. I think one thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the original developers have long since gone their separate ways, but maybe they put together a solid enough team of developers who can both appreciate and understand the previous games in the series.

The track record of STALKER games is hit and miss, however. Clear Sky was god-awful.

And playing unmodded SoC reminds you just how fucking broken the game was.

Call of Pripyat was pretty good straight out ofthe box, but I'm going to temper my nostalgia with memories of how worldbuilding and theme do not trump playability.

I... I actually agree with B-Cell on a gaming topic?

Can't wait to get back into the Zone.
Well, let's be honest, this the first new entry in the series for a very long time, which usually means that it will change beyond recognition, so all we really know is that a game will be released in about three years. Even if I was a big fan of the series (haven't played it) I wouldn't see much reason to get excited without seeing more than a release date.

2021? So its a prank. 3 years out isn't a release date, its an aspirational goal for a project they haven't even started to brainstorm.

Metro Exodus
Why do people keep doing this? Metro is from 4A. GSC is not 4A. Stop lumping Metro and Stalker together like they were made by the same team.

What I notice is most of those names are only credited on Stalker SoC and not its sequels. Meaning they were likely the core members that left GSC in the middle of Stalker's development to found 4A and make Metro. Stalker spent 6 years in development, with a restart partway through, and team members leaving a project mid-development is not uncommon; especially when development is plagued with problems as Stalker's certainly was.

You make a fair point, I suppose it would warrant further investigation since I wasn't paying attention to a lot of these details back when it was going on (2008-2011-ish), I just remember some back and forth controversy over it.

Is change bad? Call of Chernobyl and Warfare mod with various weapon and outfit addons is amazing. STALKER is one of those ranchises where the mythology of it and its dedicated community is bigger and better than the games itself.

Guarantee you that unless the game as a platform is utterly broken, within a month a fan will have taken that content, added in all the rest of the games' content, retooled whatever replacement for A-Life it has, and created an amazing faction war game that was better than anything in Clear Sky.
