Here's a source for people that don't speak Russian, which I'm guessing is pretty much everyone here:

Stalker 2...yeah I guess two comes after three.
2 came after 2 stand alone expansions..

its full fledge sequel that was cancelled in 2012 and reborn once again. the game cancellation was biggest disappointment for me in gaming history and then its comeback was greatest moment.

I never felt that the Stalker IP needs to be continued. As a matter of fact I never felt it needed to be continued beyond Shadow of Chernobyl in the first place. Which was good...ish, in an idiosyncratic "made in a garage in Eastern Europe" kind of way. It sure was ambitious, for its time at the very least, but I don't see any potential left in the series. You could argue that games like the Far Cry series present a streamlined version of what STALKER was, back in the day. Sure, they don't have its fancy RPG elements and complex AI systems but both of these were fairly half baked in STALKER.

What I did enjoy about Shadow of Chernobyl was the art design. The environments had that naturalism to them, that seemed to be inspired by the Tarkovsky movie of the same name. It never indulged too much in outright futurism, which I appreciated. I think a lot of the people who worked on it went on to make the Metro series, which are also very good looking games.

I honestly could never get into Stalker, it was just too Euro-jank for my taste.

It was a really ambitious game but none of the systems ever worked well enough together (or maybe I just didn't understand them well enough).

I enjoyed SoC quite a bit, but the issue was always what is the *optimal* way to play?

There was always some mod or enhanced config that various people would say is the best (since Vanilla had so many unresolved issues), or others would say is garbage because it ?ruined the feel?, difficulty, etc. and recommended another. The biggest issue was the tedium in traversing a vast wasteland with few interesting things in between objectives besides those annoying radiation anomalies. Atmosphere was top notch though, and I even adjusted fairly well to the wonky accuracy and ballistics.

If they nail the execution on this and make the world more interesting and dynamic to explore, it could be more exceptional than ever.
