Star Fox Zero Launch Trailer Shows Off Story, Ships, and More

Watch the Star Fox Zero launch trailer right here.

The launch trailer for Star Fox Zero has been released. It shows main character Fox McCloud putting together the team that he needs to take on the big boss Andross, who intends to take over the galaxy.

As you can see, there are a variety of vehicles available. We also get a good look at gameplay, and a glimpse of how the Wii U gamepad will be used in the game.

There's also a brief section Project Guard, the Star Fox themed minigame that will be bundled in with the main game. If you buy digitally, you can buy the two separately, but you'll pay $65 instead of $60 if you do buy both.

If you're ready for Star Fox Zero, the wait is almost over. It's set to release in the US this Friday, April 22.

That's the quality of the voice acting, huh? Wow... those Zelda U rumors had better just be rumors.

Would love to play this, much if it looks almost like a direct copy of the 64 version I still play, and that's great.

But, just can't bring myself to have any desire to own a Wii U.

(Also as mentioned above, the voice acting is terrible, and it's not like the bar was all that high)

Somehow even cheesier than Starfox 64.
So cheesy your feet think it smells.
So cheesy lactose is intolerant of it.

On the other hand, if it still has the Lylat voice over option I'm not bothered. I'm far more worried about the 'innovative' control scheme and sincerely hope it can be turned off entirely. If not then I'll be heart broken, Nintendo's obsession with dumb control gimmicks has damaged more games than it's improved (see Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess etc).

Eh...I'm of two minds of the voice acting. On one hand it's cheesy. On the other hand, the purposefully went out of their way to re-hire every voice actor possible from the original Star Fox 64 which, to be honest, weren't great in the original anyways so I didn't really expect good voice acting. But voice acting in Nintendo games are hit and miss regardless. For every Kid Icarus: Uprising, there's a Metroid: Other M. So it's probably a 50/50 shot of voice acting, if it's true, in Zelda U being any good.

...Why did you pick the two examples that people universally consider good for motion controls? Better bad examples would be Star Fox Command's touch controls or Kid Icarus: Uprising's touchscreen hybrid controls. Both of those games actually had critiques on the control system. Your two examples are among the most beloved reason to have control gimmicks.

In any case, no, the controls can't be turned off. They can be changed so it only fired when you're firing a laser so it's not too terrible if you don't like the controls but the game is built around the motion controls and a few levels will be impossible to play without them.

OT: As someone who has gotten this game early, it's exactly what I thought it would be: a short cheesy rail shooter. It's not going to be a success but it's nice for Star Fox to finally return to its roots. Well, so long as I ignore the growing demand on certain sites for Miyamoto to kill himself, anyways.

Because they're the very best of the bunch, yet still one would have been better with normal controls and one was much better with normal controls.

It doesn't get much more damning than that, they very best examples anyone can think of are still better without motion control.

This looks pretty good! Can't wait to duel it out with Wolf again.

Though I must say, what I really want is another game where we get to play as Wolf. It'd be like when Ace Attorney had a game where you play as Edgeworth.

Except...no? I mean, you CAN play Twilight Princess without motion controls on the Gamecube and both play perfectly fine. I'm not seeing how one is better than the other. It wasn't built with motion controls in mind and yet both version still play great. And...you do know that there really isn't that much motion controls in Mario Galaxy right? The main reason for motion controls is for collecting star bits. The controls are still the same as every other 3D Mario game in existence. Furthermore, those two games are no longer the standard of motion controls (if they ever were). Splatoon is universally considered to be superior because of its gyro aiming. Hell, even games on other systems have started to use more motion controls in the form of Gyro controls like Ace Combat. Even during the Wii era, Metroid Prime 3 were considered to be a superior form of the motion controls compared to your two examples. You literally picked two examples of motion control gaming that didn't really have a whole lot of it. I'm not really sure what "removing" it would have done any better to be honest.

I'm still not convinced on that face. It's so...squished. That muzzle looks so icky. I still prefer his SSBM/Adventures look.

Then again I'm a casual Star Fox fan without a WiiU anyway so eh.

*fangirl squee* Just two more days! TWO MORE DAYS! And to think I have to choose between this and the Splatfest this weekend due to lack of proper transportation to San Francisco...

Other than that, I'm going to binge on some Star Fox: Assault again to make time go by relatively faster...

Everything I have heard so far about this game doesn't sound too great. It seems to me to be more of a nostalgia trip with shitty gimmicks crammed in.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm a bit sick of the SF64 re-releases. I think Assault was very underrated and would have liked to seen a continuation on from that (ignoring Command). Anywho, I doubt this game will be a success so we probably won't see another Star Fox game for a while, and it will probably be another SF64 remake in 2021.

After getting to play it today, I can absolutely see why people were pissed bout the controls. But I'm quite good at using rough control schemes, and this game was no different. It's hard, the game is harder than it needs to be cause of it. With that in mind though, it has a lot of nuance to being able to play like a pro, and I'm honestly not that bothered at this point. I'm renting it currently, but if after a week I'm having a blast, I'm absolutely gonna buy it. Platinum's influence is obvious in several spots, and that's awesome!
