Star-Lord Drops Amazing Hip-Hop Chops - Update

You all may have forgotten about Dre, but the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy sure as heck hasn't.

Update: Some beautiful perfect person has set Chris Pratt's epic spitting to music. We've swapped out the original video with the new and improved version. You will never smile this much.

Original story: Note: This is slightly NSFW for swearing and references to drug use. Just be warned.

In Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord's mom made him two mix tapes full of smooth 70s music like Rupert Holmes and Redbone. It is spectacularly awesome (and as we noted in the latest movie Podcast [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escapist-podcast-movies-and-tv/9623-013-Shocker-We-Talk-About-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-A-LOT], one of the best uses of licensed music in recent memory.) But if the film's soundtrack had been curated by Star-Lord instead of his mom, chances are it would have had a hell of a lot more hip hop on it.

Or so we assume, since as it turns out, Star-Lord/Peter Quill (and Bert Macklin, F.B.I.) actor Chris Pratt turns out to have the entire Eminem verse of "Forgot About Dre" from Chronic 2001 memorized. And during an appearance to promote Guardians, he handily demonstrated this weird superpower on SiriusXM for DJ Whoo Kid's Shade45 show.

I can't lie, this might be the greatest combination of amateur rapping skills and Orlando Bloom dissing ever recorded. Obviously, this gets us all fantasizing about what might end up on Star-Lord's "Awesome Mix Pt. 2". Sure, he left earth in 1988 and sure, his mom probably didn't listen to Rap. But maybe by accident she threw on a track from "N.W.A. and the Posse" (1987), Ice-T's "Rhyme Pays" (1987) or even World Class Wrecking Cru's "Rapped in Romance" (1986). Yeah, OK, probably not, but why not take this opportunity to put together your own fantasy Guardians 2 soundtrack in comments.

How about Follow the leader from Erik B and Rakim?

Just about came out in time for young Peter's unplanned trip, plus it would be amazing to see something like a fight or infiltration play out in time to the stabs of the trumpets. Maybe Drax and Gamorra sparring with it on the stereo on the Milano's deck...

I'd rather get farted on by David Hasselhoff than punched by Orlando Bloom

That needs to go on a T-shirt.

Sort of amazed we didn't reference Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" or the attitude filled offerings of your Run DMC. They were out in 1979/1981, so clearly they _could_ have made it on the list. Tho, they would have been a few years old at that point.

And based on Mrs. Quill's selections, she probably isn't that into the rap scene...

Doubtful, see you're confusing Peter Quill with the actor Chris Pratt. Since he left earth in like the 1980s I highly doubt his mix tape even if it was made by him would ever have any rap, much less eminem.

Man, he does exactly what I do when that song comes on...
Though I much prefer Dre's part to Eminem's.

Is it weird for me to immediately think of Kung Pow and picture Star Lord kung fu with Ram Jam's Black Betty?

Rap existed in the 80's, I know I was there.

That was pretty impressive. If the movies don't work out for Chris then he can start a Eminem cover band.

There was rap in the 80s, not a whole lot granted, but it did exist.

As cool as that was, what the fuck was up with the bald dude next to him making those weird noises and throwing himself around? Is...is this just an American thing (Not an American, so I think it's pretty odd)?

I think that's called being a human being. You may find your stay on Earth to be a learning experience in how we act among groups.

Some people are just more excitable that's all.

That split-second pause where Pratt interrupts himself and the screen filter shuts off then turns back on was pure genius.

You're using beautiful as an adverb to modify perfect without adding the -ly suffix to actually make it an adverb.

No he didn't, both beautiful and perfect are adjectives describing the noun 'person'. He left out a comma.

Anyway, the rap is good. Gonna listen to it a coupla times, pick out some more references.

Edit: also, perfect isn't a verb, why would you want to modify it with an adverb?

If they're both modifying person then he wants them hyphenated.
