Star Wars: Episode VII May Cast Breaking Bad Actor

Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons is apparently a favorite for an unknown role in Star Wars: Episode VII.

This may be entering some minor spoiler territory if you you're that far into Breaking Bad, but Todd is kind of evil. You wouldn't think it a first glance (which is kind of the point), but hiding behind his handsome face and soft-spoken demeanor is a baddie who easily ranks up there as one of the scariest characters on the show. The more you come to know his character, the more chilling you'll find him. The point we're trying to make here is that actor Jesse Plemons did really well with his portrayal.

That in mind, if current rumors can be believed, he may also have an opportunity to do a fine job in Star Wars: Episode VII. According to apparent sources with an inside scoop of the film's casting process, Plemons is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams to follow-up on a well-received audition tape. The sources, apparently positioned in Talentworks, the agency representing Plemons, say that he is currently a favorite for an undetermined role in the much anticipated sequel. Disney and Lucasflim have, not surprisingly, been unwilling to comment.

While none of this has officially been confirmed, it would be, in my opinion, quite a positive if Plemons were cast, especially in the role of a villain. He definitely proved his chops for darker roles in Breaking Bad and, honestly, even if Abrams and friends just aped his performance from the show, I'd be happy. If nothing else, he'd serve as an interesting break from the Star Wars antagonists of the past. Granted, Hayden Christensen wasn't ugly, even after he turned all Darth Mopey, but besides him the various Sith Lords of the series have all been old, alien, cyborg and pretty much plain-faced evil. I'd love to see a younger, softer and more subtle practitioner of the Dark Side that's smiling one second and terrifying the next. What do you think? Should Plemons get a spot in the film and, if so, what role would you like him to play?

Not sure if a subtle Sith lord would even work. I thought the corrupting influence of the Force's dark side would make it near impossible to not embrace it with verve and passion.

But regardless, he did a good job in Breaking Bad so I'd be happy to see him in any new role, be it another chilling terrifying character or let him show some range and play a Jedi of some sort.

I've been reading some who have him pegged as Luke Skywalker's son, which would work from an age and even appearance standpoint.

That said, there are different kinds of passion, my friend. I'd just love to see a villain who stepped away from the "booming voice" or "cackling mad" thing the series tends to go with. In fact, I'd have to say my biggest disappointment with The Phantom Menace was how quickly it killed off Darth Maul just because I love that he barely said a word the whole film.

oh dont worry im sure darth maul would have easily been able to ruin his own character if he had a more fleshed out story.
With the other 2 sith apprentices in the prequels i feel like you have to call their motivations into question in every scene, nothing they say makes sense

I want him to play as the protagonist. I think that would be really cool. Maybe showcase his range for different kinds of characters some more.

He'd make a good future Luke. The look who struggles...and maybe even takes a ride......on the Dark side.

He would be a good stormtrooper:

OT: I think that is good news, he's a good actor, I really liked him in BB.

Also, as above mentioned, my first thought was "that guy looks like Luke" aswell, so maybe they explore that direction?

I'm sorry, but after seeing his start on the Friday Night Lights TV Show (so many of those actors are doing well for themselves, I've now noticed), I can only think of him as the lovable nerd/ginger Landry who somehow nailed the prom queen. *ahem*

Anyways, the kid has proven his acting chops, so I'd be really excited if he does get cast as anything.

Also...

I really wanted Todd to have some kind of moral enlightenment in the last season of BB and throw Jesse a bone, but alas, that did not happen (but all the better for it).

The fact that this guy can act, period, is a plus for modern day Star Wars. That alone probably warrants him a leading role. :)

I like to see Todd as Jesse's anti-thesis. Jesse did some bad things, but deep down, he's a caring guy that's willing to go out of his way to help a child escape from an abusive household and protect those he cared about.

Todd on the other hand was a sociopath. He did whatever it took to get the job done and get a point across. And showed practically no remorse for his actions.

I really love how the two's characters practically clashed with each other.

But yeah, glad to see this guy is probably going to get a role in the new Star Wars film. He's a really good actor.

I thought you meant Bryan Cranston :(

He could have played a minor role as a producer of Death Sticks. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Death_stick
