Star Wars May Get a Teaser Trailer This Weekend

Star Wars: The Force Awakens won't arrive for another year, but the first teaser trailer should hit within a few days.

It doesn't matter how silly <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138445-Star-Wars-Episode-VII-The-Force-Awakens-Title>Star Wars: The Force Awakens title is, it will absolutely become one of the biggest movie events of 2015. The trouble is that outside of scraps slipping from the Lucasfilm set, we have very few official signs of what to expect. Apparently, that will change this week with a world trailer debut showcased at select theaters on Nov. 28.

The trailer itself probably won't be much more than a teaser, considering JJ Abrams <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138370-Star-Wars-Episode-VIIs-Principal-Photography-Comes-to-a-Close>only just finished The Force Awakens principle photography. But with luck, it will offer some glimpse of information that fans have craved ever since a new trilogy was announced. Unless, of course, you've been reading through <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136273-Rumor-Plot-for-Star-Wars-7-Leaks-Out>all the potential Star Wars spoilers already circulating the internet.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens' trailer will be screened from at least nine theaters from the Regal Entertainment Group, although rumors suggest that number could run as high as 100. The theaters are listed below, but we shouldn't be surprised if a leaked trailer makes its way to YouTube sometime before Friday.

California
Irvine Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
San Diego Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX

Georgia
Atlanta Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX

Illinois

How does this in any way make sense? How does releasing the trailer in a random handfull of places in one county help premote the movie?

I like how we have now progressed to teasing the teaser of a trailer for a movie.

This thing will kill itself with hype long before the movie comes out, by which time we will know virtually everything about it without going to see it because of leaks, teases, interviews, rumours etc.

You could blame the PR department but the problem is also that it's becoming harder and harder to maintain any sort of secrecy over a big budget movie/show/game/whatever. The more people are involved in a project, the easier it is for someone to get their hands on something spicy that they want to share online. Hell, Disney couldn't even prevent their teaser for Avengers 2 from leaking out, when it was very clear that they were saving it for their Agents of Shield show, hoping it would increase viewership. Meh, there is nothing to get hyped about over a teaser[/t] trailer! Chance are there will be little to none glimpse of the upcoming movie at all.

Well, if there's one thing JJ Abrams is good at, it's overhyping mediocre movies. I mean, we're getting a teaser over a full year before the release date. An exclusive limited-theater-only teaser, even. If that's not overhyping, I don't what is.

So what crappy movies, rushed for the holidays, are they hoping to bribe people to watch using this teaser? And how many cell recorded copies are going to be uploaded if the leaked, high quality one is pulled?

Considering they turned Darth Vader into a whiny man-***** with abandonment issues who was mad at the big kids for not letting him join their secret club, I'm not terribly optimistic.

The sound of a lightsaber being ignited. Followed by another. And another. And perhaps a few more. Slowly pull back to show that all of them are red. Then, one more ignites, and it's a familiar green, standing opposed to the red ones.

End trailer.

Or at least something like that. I bet my X-wing wings that lightsabers will be involved.

Amazing enough, one of those theaters is near me. However, I do wonder if there are any movies worth seeing. If not, I'll probably wait for it to be online.

Who am I kidding? I'll wait for it to be online.

Man, I feel like I might be in the minority here as I am cautiously optimistic about this film. Considering Disney has also made the Marvel movies (including Guardians of the Galaxy) I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Then again, I didn't hate the prequels.

I'm not really sure what the point of a teaser trailer would be. Not only are we all well aware of this movie's existence, but we already know the name, have seen concept art, costume replicas, and shots of film sets, in addition to knowing who's been cast, and rumors about the plot. A teaser seems like a formality at this point.

If you're so out of the loop that you weren't even aware that a seventh movie was being made until now, you're probably not the type of person who'll care that much about it when you do find out.

Doesn't hype usually involve some sort of belief that it'll be good? Most people seem to be "cautiously optimistic" at best, if they don't flat out think it'll suck because it's being directed by the horrible JJ Abrams who ruined the Star Trek franchise by filling it with lens flares.

Not to mention all the people who've already been disappointed once with the Phantom Menace who are guaranteed to be more jaded now.

Are you telling me we're supposed to be hyped for a fucking teaser trailer?! As someone who's rather unfamiliar with hype, I thought a teaser trailer was supposed to generate interest and awareness, so we are now preemptively making people interested and aware that they are supposed to be interested and aware?

I'm calling it now, the time just before and just after release will have some of the worse hype in history.

Me too... I mean, Mira Mesa's only a 20 minute drive from where I live... Granted, now I'm curious as to which movies would even have this particular teaser showcased...

Mocking Jay? Penguins? Horrible Bosses?? Oh wait... It would most likely be Big Hero 6 because Disney!

Regardless, unless I was going to spend the day before my birthday watching a "sequel" to a movie [series] I was kinda indifferent to in general, I'll just wait until the actual trailer gets released probably before Avengers 2 or something like that...

yeh, you know...im pretty much looking forward to this.
but then, I didn't mind the prequels (hell, I think III is probably all-told my favourite film in the series) and I like both disneys pirates of the caribbean films (which are similar in terms of swordplay) and bloody loved guardians of the galaxy, so....yeh
Hopeful

CGI count is strong in this one.
I counted the starfighters (both the dogfight and the X-Wings) and the speeder or whatever that chick was riding. So...three. Three elements.

Look, I like practical effects too, but there's a bit more they can do in terms of action sequences with CGI ships rather than a plastic model on a stick or a card on a print.

Also, did anyone else think the voiceover sounded like Benmuhdick Humperpatch?

I counted the X-Wings, the chick's speeder, the Millenium Falcon, the little wheelie droid and the lightsaber (obviously, and the one thing I'm okay with). Yes, the voice sounds like Benedict's. I don't know if it is him. For all his Sherlock glam I'm getting a little weary of seeing him and listening to him everywhere. Star Trek. Hobbit. Fucking Madagascar. The guy's getting burned out with all this over-exposure.
