Star Wars Preview Pages Give Glimpse at New Comic

Marvel has released a set of preview images showcasing Jason Aaron's new Star Wars book.

Early this year, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131015-Star-Wars-Comics-Leaving-Dark-Horse-for-Marvel-in-2015>it was announced that the Star Wars comic book license would be returning to Marvel after spending more than 20 years under the banner of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131104-Dark-Horse-Responds-to-Questions-About-Star-Wars-Moving-To-Marvel>Dark Horse Comics. It was a move that wasn't really much of a surprise. When your company owns one of the biggest comic publishers in the world, it doesn't make sense to leave a franchise as popular as Star Wars in the hands of the competition. Regardless, for many, Star Wars' impending move back to Marvel marks the end of an era and the beginning of something wholly new.

<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137109-Marvel-Announces-Star-Wars-Legends-Epic-Collections-Series-for-2015>Star Wars fans eager to see that something new may be interested in a set of preview images recently released by Marvel. Showcased in the images is a trio of pages taken from the first issue of the publisher's new and upcoming Star Wars comic. While the pages are wordless, they would seem to depict a confrontation between Luke, Han and Leia and a group of Imperials. R2-D2 is also there, using his shock weapon in tandem some leaked coolant to stun some Stormtroopers. Marvel's new comic will be written by Jason Aaron with John Cassaday providing art. It will take place in-between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back and will release to stores on January 14th, 2015.

Speaking personally, I was among those saddened by Dark Horse losing the Star Wars license. No small part of this was because of my fondness for the publisher's own <a href=http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_%28Dark_Horse%29>interquel comic, which had been running for several months when the Marvel announcement came down. I'd be lying though, if I said that I don't like what I see in these preview images. We'll have to wait and see, of course, if the final product delivers the goods. For now, though, I'm optimistic.

does the fact that Leia is wearing the same uniform as Luke imply she might also be canonically a jedi? That's like one of the few things in the EU that I really wanted to preserve

I see the empire is still using cheap plastic to create their uniforms in this new EU (seriously, it has never made sense that you can punch a full armored storm trooper bare handed and yet knock them out).

Seems pretty good. Han looks weird, though. His eyes looks like Solid Snake's. Thing is, Snake looks that way becaus he's wearing a bandana. Han 's bareheaded. So yeah. Weird.

I have never read a Star Wars comic, despite the greatest of greats writing a whole bunch of them. I would definitively read Ostrander's before these.

First thing I thought of when I saw that image in the article was: "Is Han high and eye-fucking the camera there?" Because man, that is weird.

Actually, they're both wearing what looks like Skiff Guard outfits...the same one Lando wore in RotJ....which raises even more questions if this is occurring between episodes IV and V

Unlikely since this comic is supposed to take place between IV and V, when Luke was barely a Jedi himself, and no one had any knowledge of Luke and Leia's relation.

I like the art, but I have issues with the coloring. It looks a bit too clean, too digital, if that makes any sense.Outside of that, it's nice to see them go on with the new EU, and I suppose it'll be fun.
