Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has gotten much hype on several gaming websites/forums, and the demo has finally been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

So, i decided to download the demo, seeing as i am one of the crazed gamers who have been awaiting the games release. I must admit, i was a little nervous going into the demo, seeing as it had a lot to live up to in my eyes. Let me explain. The only other Star Wars games i had played previous to this were KotOR and KotOR2, both great games (even if the lip-syncing could have used some work). I was fully prepared for TFU not living up to its hype.

The demo begins with Darth Vader giving his newest apprentice a task to preform. Next thing you know, your dropped off on a large ship and are into the gameplay. Once you enter that first room, all hell breaks loose. You find yourself in the middle of a war between two opposing factions. (Dont want to give details as to any spoilers). At first, all the enemies and all of the action can seem a little overwhelming, until you realize that you can use the Force to throw entire ships at battalions of troopers, which then makes the game almost too easy. But if your the gamer who enjoys using Force powers to throw big things that explode and toss helpless soldiers across rooms into large amounts of explosives, this game is for you. Not much to say on sword (lightsaber) play. There are a few combos you can execute, but your really only fighting soldiers using blasters, so not much to say for the close combat yet.

The physics of the game are incredible. You can throw anything (or anyone) at aything and you can bet your last dollar that whatever it hits will explode or dent or break. You can use the force to lift or break almost anything.

As for the graphics: They are nothin stellar. Average graphics. Not as good as Assassin's Creed, but not as bad as Halo 3. (Yes, i am making a statement. Im not on the Halo 3 fanbus. Bite me.)

Overall, i would give the demo a 9.3, and i would recommend it to anyone who is considering downloading it.

I'm unimpressed with the Euphoria engine in this, I mean, really with all the hype surrounding this I expected them to use it to the fullest but nope, hardly different from ragdoll, well, I'm only saying that because I lack a better statement.

Anyway, the gameplay, another "Eh" for me, I mean, game is hyped for the physics and AI, but the AI is bloody stupid, I can pick them up, electrocute them, throw them, and drop things on them, and it's not very satisfying, and the few combos you have with the saber are fun but seeing how underpowered it is without using the force lighting at the same time with it, you wonder what the hell lucasarts was thinking letting us use it for something other than blocking.

Force pushing doors open is fun, charging it up, then blasting it down and seeing everyone behind go flying away - I thought throwing a Ti Fighter into a big group of enemies would be more satisfying but nope, opening a door was...

This demo has convinced me to rent, but only if I wasn't gonna pay 9 bucks for it.

I thought the gameplay was awesome and I can't wait for it's release which is conveniatly a few days before my birthday :)
The main disapointment with the demo was for a 904mb download, it's very very short.

EDIT:
At the start with that yellow figure that shoots lightning and reveals the Lucas Arts logo, it freezes for a few seconds half way through.
Is this happening to anyone else or just me?

The menu is shit, the intro (especially the wall of yellow text) is shit.

From my point of view, the story will be 100% cliché.

Safe to say, though, I will be getting this game, if only to fuck over everyone with THE FORCE.

Sound 7/10
Graphics 6/10
Story 4/10 (This is completely random)
Gameplay 9/10

Immensely boring. Can't even summon the energy to play the demo through a 2nd time. I expected more based on the hype - doh fell for it again.

Personally i enjoyed the demo thoroughly. Not being here long enough to become the sort of friendless games critic that spends his time complaining more about games than playing them. (ehem yahtzee) But anyway, i've played the demo at least ten times through because lobbing storm troopers at doorways to open them is so unbelievably satifying that it never gets old.

Could have used more combos with the lightsaber attacks but its fine i suppose, you can still pull off some good ones and i hope to see more with the full game.

Euphoria engine was average, the only distinct features being movement when force gripped, and grabbing onto things, enemies still don't act like they are really trying to kill you.

DMM and HAVOK were both amazing and i enjoyed them so much i literally spent 5 minutes bending doors into cool shapes. Its like the half life of star wars, physics is always fun :D

The thing I love about this review is it's magical ability that spawned several other reviews on the same thread. But, in honor of the OP's effort.

The review, as short as a game's demo itself, is well-worded and informative. I feel like it could've done more about telling me about the game, and really read like a list of reasons to buy. Were there any cons, or any actions that struck you amiss? How about the story that was introduced? Too heavy? Not enough of it? But otherwise, good review. I may have to give it a download.

What the hell? The story sounds awesome. The fuck are you going on? Darth vadar has a secret apprentice, and the game is being treated as canon, so you know it can't suck THAT badly.
