I had 2 issues with it.

First was the whole DEFAULT TEXT fiasco. When I was towards the end (I think it was about 2 levels away from the end) my mission objective screen said Default text instead of what I needed to know. Try and finish the game next time assholes.

Second was the Star Destroyer. I am following all the onscreen prompts for close too 2 hours. And I am not getting any closer to bringing her down. So I finally swallow my pride and start looking for help. Only to find that the onscreen prompts are wrong. A QTE that doesn't tell you the right buttons to push??? WTF is that?

Based on the 360 version.

The game is OK but no one would have bought it if it hadn't had the Star Wars branding. I think the main reason they are pissed is because they like Star Wars and so expected it to be better than it was.

Why so much hate? Let me give you an example

I rented this game about a month ago for the first time. i got it for five days figuring "I love Star WArs I'll play this thing till it breaks I'm sure". First time I played was on the hardest setting I beat the entire game within 10 hrs.. .and the only reason it took that long is that on the harder settings your lightsaber becomes a foam bat you get to annoy storm troppers to death with. Stupid game. Great idea, done terribly wrong.

It wasn't a bad game, per se, but the hype around it made it sound like it was going to be much more expansive, much more epic. I played through the game once, ended up doing the good ending, and shortly thereafter traded it in for another game. It was buggy, the boss fights ranged from pathetic to "Why the fuck can they block everything?", and the "choice system" that they spouted so much about was really only one choice, but it still wasn't bad. I think it was worth it.
Pretty much this. It's not an awful game, but the quality was still too poor for a game that was hyped as much as it was.

I played it on PSP and I thought it was pretty good for well a PSP game, but there was no level select and that sucked.

I also played the 360 and I didn't think it didn't do anything wrong it had a great story and pretty solid gameplay. But I will admit at times you don't feel like such a badass and there is also *shutters* a escort mission.

Best dude-flinging game since Black and White.

I only have the demo but I have dozens of increasingly cruel ways to fling dudes.

They story was actually ok, and the swordplay was functional. To be honest I didn't use the force as much as I could have but then again, I didn't need it, I have a sword capable of cutting just aboot anything and can reflect lazers so why do I even need sorcery?

The story is a pathetic add-on, to cash in on the starry-eyed fans, the combat is lackluster at best, and extremely repetitive. The levels are recycled, it's very short, all this combined with a good amount of hype has kept this sitting in my drawer, untouched.
I thought the story was very good, actually. The camera and targeting systems were totally screwy, and the game is buggy as hell, but I think it's at least mediocre.
The story is yet another attempt for georfe to pretend he can still write, seriously tacking on some bullshit apprentice, who is loads stronger than any jedi ever seen before is a really pathetic way to cash-in on his loyal fan's. He could have done much more with this story. My guess: curious george wanted to see how little effort he could put into a game, and still sell it because of the "STAR WARS" on the front.

EDIT: and for the record, I don't hate the game, I just haven't seen a need to replay it, when I barely slogged through it initially.
No George most definitely did not want to see how little effort LucasArts could put into a game and still sell it. Fact is Force Unleased had a very expensive and very painful development cycle. The hardware it was running on couldn't handle the advanced physics. It was released way too early, but my take on it is that they poured too much money into the game and honestly couldn't keep the project afloat without costing huge sums of money.

Don't take my word for it, I only tested the game during development.

I found the game to kick ass

The story for what it is was exactly how it was supposed to be

The gameplay: eh but no complaints

and the fact that you got to kill a gungan made this game all the worthwhile

Come on who didn't enjoy that part?

The game boasted about 14 levels,of those 14 levels 4 of them were the same damn planet and place, the only reason to play through again was to grab all the extra hidden stuff and the alternate ending (in my case it was to get my nephew to play it on his profile on my PS3, because the ending I wanted repeatedly crashed the system, once he finished it I could then play my ending), the patch didn't fix the bugs that people reported...in fact i don't think it fixed anything, the camera angle was sometimes damn stupid, there is no online multi-player, and there are none of the extra levels or optional characters that the PSP or DS have (no we have to pay for those, anyone ever seen Luke hold the lightsaber in a reverse grip, what is the big deal about the jedi temple?).

So basically the console owners (not hand helds) were ripped off.

It was boring as hell, unfinished, and buggy. I got it for $30 bucks and still overpaid. Playing the 360 version was painful, full stop. I didn't even finish it, I had no desire to. Possibly some of my hate comes from the fact I had played Mass Effect right before this, and found it a much worthier space opera. The Force Unleashed had inferior graphics (jarringly apparent after the beauty of ME), terrible voice acting, a generic and predictable storyline, and gameplay hampered by unintuitive controls and buggy levels. Why hate? Because it was bad. Very bad. No mediocre here, just plain bad.
