Star Wars: Uncut Finished and Released Online

[vimeo=10821312]

A Star War fan film, which recreates the first movie in 15 second segments, is finally available to view online.

We first told you about Star Wars: Uncut back in October [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95333-Star-Wars-Uncut-A-Fan-Remake-15-Seconds-at-a-Time] last year, and then again in April [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100037-Star-Wars-Fans-Use-Legos-Paper-Bags-to-Recreate-Original-Movie] when the movie was about to get its first screening. But now the film is not only complete, it's available to watch if you mosey on over to the Star Wars: Uncut [http://www.starwarsuncut.com/] website.

For those of you who don't know, the Star Wars: Uncut project took the first movie, broke it up into nearly 500 15 second long mini-scenes, and then got fans to recreate them any way they saw fit. Some used animation, some acted out their scenes, and more than a few used Lego or action figures. The result is a charming and quirky tribute to one of the most important sci-fi movies of all time. At the moment it's individual clips, although a full length version does exist.

Just a word of warning though, if you want to watch it, do it sooner rather than later. There's a notice on the Uncut site saying that the team is seeking the legal permissions required to properly release the full-length version, and there's no guarantee it will get those permissions, or be allowed to continue showing the clips. That's not to say that it will definitely be shut down - LucasFilm is usually ok with fan projects as long as they don't violate its copyrights or try to make money from its intellectual properties - but it could happen. Better to see it while you can, than wish you had when you can't, right?

This looks awesome, I've heard about this before in a few other places, and I'm definitely going to find some time to watch this, just to see some of the cool stuff the fans have done.

That is most definitely the most awesome thing I have seen all day. And I spent my entire day on the computer. In my defense I have a double sessions all last week...

I love the mash-up of different techniques throughout the trailer though. Some people look like they practically did it professionally while others took a joking approach (I am looking at you hamburger).

I think the best part about this is how well every scene is done.

Well, OK, maybe "well" isn't a good word, but it seems like every submitter took their scene seriously. They got their idea and stuck with it.

Some of these scenes are just brilliant. I've just watched past the upside down mouths with wigs one; they are clearly Dwarfers :D.

I watched about 30 minutes before my browser decided to die and because it?s made up of hundreds of clips I can't find an easy way to get back to where I was, grrr.

It is amazing from what I saw and I haven't even got to the best parts, last I saw was Luke, obi-wan and C3PO in a hot-tub. Only disappointing bit was a few clips don't have a rendition of the amazing music when Luke is looking over the dessert.

I really hope that Lucas gives them permission to use it.

I haven't watched it yet, but I hope when they go through the asteroid field they simply use clips from the games asteroids.

other than that, I love the idea they cam up with, hopefully they get the legality figured out and mash it up in a full feature.

Good to see that all of the people submitting at least had a clear idea of what scene they were doing. And they actually fit quite well together for the most part.

Also, the kids in the gunner scene with "I got him! I got him!" "Great kid, don't get cocky"
..fucking hilarious. Definitely my favorite one
