Starforge. You may have heard of it when Notch tweeted about it a few months ago. Starforge is an ambitious project by three people in Alberta, Canada, started due to wanting to create the game they've always wanted to play. They have big plans and numerous playable builds of the game. They've recently started a fundraiser on a kickstarter-alike called IndieGoGo, and it's moving along at a steady pace.

My head's starting to fog up in that fuzzy way it usually does, so I'll leave a link to the main website, a link to their Steam Greenlight page and a link to their IndieGoGo page. Give it a thumbs up and/or a contribution, if you're interested at all.

EDIT: Now with video, thanks to Mr.K. and his knowledge of how to link videos in this format that I am not used to.

I remember seeing this a while back and being really interested but at that point it wasn't available for download, thanks for reminding me of it!

Well you should always include some footage of obscure titles or people will just not check it out.

While they made much progress with it I still find it too twitchy for my enjoyment, but they have all the right ingredients for something great now it's on them to cook it properly.

Aw. Hardly any love for the horribly underrated indie title?

Oh well, at least it'll attract the hipster crowd.

A combination of minecraft, halo, and privateer with parkour, realistic physics, a gun editor, custom spaceships, and space diving? Take my life savings. All of it.

Tried it earlier, decided to wait until about 20 versions down the line before trying it again. Its an interesting concept, but at that time, and possibly even still, the execution was lacking. Yeah, its only three people working on it, but that's no reason for me to have it installed on my PC before it even works properly. When they get all the features in, and its optimised properly, then I'll DL it again. For now I'm content with waiting.

So... Basically, sci-fi minecraft with FPS elements? Sounds okay. Not exactly original, but looks like it could be decent fun.

Eeeehhhh... I dunno.

Saw some of this game in an earlier thread. It looks like the kind of game where the concept sounds really cool until you actually have the game in your hands.

It's one of those "make your own fun" things. My problem with those is that it's like offering someone a really good book and then handing them a pen and a stack of paper. Turns out that "complete freedom" can be pretty boring.

Half of what I saw was a map editor. The other half was pretty goofy looking.

Besides, these days gameplay is rarely able to prove itself worth my time without some kind of story to give it a point and tie it together.

Fort wars has a set objective. Fort defense has a set objective. And there is a story, right here: http://www.starforge.com/lore.html

I hate it when people dismiss things without doing any research on them. Hell, I probably would have dismissed God Hand and Katamari as "more of that weird anime crap" if I hadn't done any research.

Edit: Gah. Fell for my own trap. "It's easy to disagree with text on a website."

I'm probably not going to stop repping this game anytime soon. If the "ask your 1998 self" thread is any indication, a lot of people would absolutely love this game. Like the guy who offered up his life savings a couple posts up.

So... sci-fi Minecraft by way of the map editor from Halo, building physics from the sandbox2 editor from Crytek, the terrain manipulation of Sim City, FPS elements from Tribes, enemies from StarCraft, the movement system and game physics of Overgrowth [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhWHIkvfa90], and vehicles from Halo reminiscent of the Mako from Mass Effect?

Well, sounds interesting at the very least and I'll probably give it a shot. I'm a little turned off though by the claims that the project was started due to "dissatisfaction with a lot of games on the market" when they are clearly "taking inspiration" from many of those same games (they even admit as much) and just tacking elements of them onto Garry's Mod. Still, if it blends those elements well enough and produces a good game from that amalgamation then I'll still have fun either way right?

Edit: In retrospect I sound rather dismissive, don't I? Please don't take it to heart, I like to do that to any new game ideas I find on these forums or hear from my friends. While I wouldn't call myself enthused, I'm certainly intrigued and will probably follow it to see how it develops.
