Starwars battlefront 3... I don't get it.

So, I get the game looking forward to any hope of co-op. Huzzah, there is some, but it's severely limited to survival modes, and the "training missions." I don't get it. they have the AI for more than that, but there's not more than that.

I notice you can't really do jack shit with your character. You gotta rank up to get cards. Ranking up can only be done in a very narrow PVP mode. Can't do it in coop in other words.
You can't use your custom characters in co-op either. Can't even decide their appearance.
I can't fathom why, really. I mean if it's such a big deal, why the hell don't we have a coop character, and a PvP character that rank separately?

I don't understand why there's so little to do in coop.

At least the Han Solo fridge from the special edition is working to expectations.

As a side question, are most modern shooters like this? So dependent on PVP that coop is a nearly useless add on?

Battlefield has been solid PvP for years and years now and the new Battlefront is made by the exact same development studio so...pretty much? At least as far as DICE goes.

Its part of why I'm outright not buying it.

The co-op modes are mostly tacked on compared to the core game, which revolves completely around the PvP.

Shame too, cause there is potential for a deeper co-op or story-driven experience from what the co-op shows.

Afaik, ranking up has no bearing on co-op whatsoever. You're allowed to use whatever blaster you want, and are offered 2 card hands. You have to use the stuff they give you within coop. I don't think you are even allowed to edit what card hands you can use in coop missions, you can only use the hands they give you.

The only other modern shooters I play besides Battlefront, are Black Ops 3 and Destiny. Destiny, has a balance of both co-op and PvP. And Black Ops 3 has a co-op campaign, a pretty complicated zombies mode, and of the course, the PvP. Battlefront is just pretty barebones in a lot of respects.

To answer your side question, I'd also add another recommendation for Destiny if you're looking for a solid co-op experience. Both the co-op and PVP are meaty enough to be wholly enjoyed on their own without ever having to look at the other one, to give you an idea, with co-op especially having lots of missions and strikes (dungeons) and raids to go through. Just for the love of all that's good get a friend or two to jump in with you though (or make friends on the reddit or official forum), the game is the absolute worst thing you can ever play if you go at it solo

Battlefield 3 had co-op mode.

But with the exception of the mission where you fly a Viper defending a ground strike (one flies, one guns like the multiplayer Viper) it more or less confirmed that DICE should stay the hell away from co-op. The one from last mission that had you both sniping and attempting to sync shots was particularly grating.

As far as I recall from my brief stint in "Missions" you can use one hand from your PvP selection. Not that it is necessary most of the time, since the hands in Missions seemed pretty well composed.

It's because people are expected to be the "game content" for each other in PvP games, and co-op usually means sticking with your friends instead. They want you there to serve the game, instead of the other way around.

My friend and I sitting side by side in a room were unable to beat that mission. I can only imagine how hard that mission would be online with a stranger, with a mic at best for communication.

I think the biggest question is why you bought the game, since all of this was pretty well-known beforehand. Well, not sure about customisation.

Really? Me and my friend thought that was the easiest one. The helicopter one was also fun, but was a pain in the ass at first because neither of us knew how to fly. Its also a pain when you are the only one who knows how to fly, but the game randomizes who gets to pilot and who gets to be the gunner.
