As the title implies, I want to know how u stay awake when ur really tired but cant go to sleep because ur trying to sort out ur sleeping pattern.

I work nights but my sleep pattern is all over the place because ive been off work, and I could do with being up for a good few hours yet.

Coffee isnt a viable answer for me, I drink a fair bit of it, so it doesnt tend to help me stay awake. Alcohol is a no, as I don have any and dont drink much anyway. Narcotics wont help either, because aside from the odd joint, i dont do any, and Im all out of weed anyway.

Ive tried reading, but its tiring my eyes out. Cant do films as Im in the bedroom and the better half is asleep and I really dont want to disturb her.

So... any ideas? I got till wednesday to be going sleep at 6-7am, and it's half past midnight on monday morning.

Grease, sugar, and caffeine. Lots of each. I was up for way too long on the May long weekend, between driving 17 hours, setting up 6 tents, and supervising a party. 830pm Thursday night to 3am Saturday morning, then up again at 6am, asleep at midnight, packing up by 1pm Sunday, home by noon on Monday.

I do nothing out of the ordinary to stay awake. My own will-power is enough for me.

Good Luck!

Lol, nice weekend!

Thanks. The sugar I will try, I got a pack of sour strips and some jelly beans and a 2L bottle of Dr Pepper. So far Ive just been browsing the net and playing forum games, but I really think I may give this up as a bad job, and kick myself in the morning. Not giving in yet though. =P

If you're a smoker, light'em up ;P If I smoke one before I try and go to sleep, good chance it will take longer. Hit the shower, allthough some people might get sleepy from it, it always makes me feel awake a bit more.

Funny to read this because I'm having the same problem at the moment. I hope it works for you, because when I stay awake till the next evening, there is a big chance I'll just wake up somewhere in the afternoon the day after that.

Well I hope u do better than I am dude.

The shower will be good for 5 minutes, then I'll wake up tommorow with no recollection of going to sleep. I usually shower before bed and when I get up as part of my routine, so that will be like telling my brain its bed time. The smoking is going on as we speak tho.

And refreshing this tab helping to. Mental stimulatoin.

I have this pencil with the writing end cut off. I use it to prop up my chin against where my collar bone sticks out at the base of my neck - it's extremely uncomfortable if I fall asleep with it there and inevitably wakes me right back up. (Tape recommended; is too easy to drop it otherwise.)

Besides that; soft drinks work well, the caffeine and sugar is almost enough to keep the dead awake.

[sub]Porn works for a little while too.[/sub]

Take a lighter and hold it under your forearm for a couple minutes.

On a more serious note, you could listen to music during an outdoor walk. That usually does the trick for me.

Get a damp washcloth and lay it across the back of your neck, as long as its cold you wont be able to fall asleep short of passing out.

I just DO stay awake. Until I'm forced to go to sleep by my parents... Of course my copious caffeine intake probably helps.

it may sound gross but try masturbating, it releases several hormones that will make you drowsy... unless your a girl, then your kinda stuck.

edit: Oh wait your married(or your dating), if she is up for it just have sex.

Hmm wish I could help, but I suck at trying to stay awake. I get into bad sleeping patterns where I end up sleeping longer, then as a result stay up till a later time, then end up sleeping longer.. and can never get full circle. That doesn't bother me much, but if someone knows how to stop me dozing off on public transport, that'd be nice :/

Large amounts of energy drinks will keep you awake. But I find that I'll get headaches if I stay up for too long...
