That's the thing.
I dig steam on my computer but I don't see a reason to access it on my phone.

The OnLive app on the other hand is very impressive: I had Dawn of War 2 running on my phone. The controls were messed up but I was amazed to see it run at all. I wasn't really interested in OnLive 'till I saw that and I have to admit, it's very cool.
Steam couldn't do the same thing right now because it's not cloud based; nor should it be really. As cool as onlive is, you need a good connection and you can't mod or anything...I don't think. I might be wrong about that, I've only gotten into it recently but between the price of the set-top player and the game prices, I'm wondering why I bothered getting a ps3.

So what, you'd rather Steam not make new things for their customers? Interesting view.

Wait a minute, you're not an EA employee are you?

There's Peggle on the marketplace. And PvZ and Bejweled.

I was wishing steam had a mobile thing to buy things with yesterday 0_0

Am I a wizard?

OT: This is a clear and present danger to my bank balance. An excellent feature.

It was only a matter of time. They've been showing interest for the mobile market for quite a while.
I wonder what the next step will be. It would be awesome if you could buy a game on Steam on your PC, like Peggle and then also play it on your phone.

So, when will steam become the premier mobile marketplace? I don't smartphone. Don't know how that works.

Of course, but I don't want to pay for it again.

Just you seeing as they are in no way a monopoly. They may very well be the biggest name in digital distribution (by far) but seeing as they have numours competitors and they have prices that show that they are competing, then I would say that they in no way at all fall under the definition of a monopoly.

Wow, with this app, they'll be able to bombard users with sales 24/7.

You could even say we're going to be...

...steamrolled.

I've been able to mess around with it for a little bit, and I have to say, it's quite nice. It's pretty much got all the functionality of Steam, sans games. You can see what others are playing, talk with them, check community pages, search/buy things in the store, etc. The format seems a bit clusterfuckish, but I'm sure they'll smooth that out over time.

Basically that sums up how I feel about it. Steam just gets more and more features XD

It's funny to me how bad origin is, could you imagine if they had a phone app. It would probably keep you geo located and ban you if you went inside a gamestop. It would also record all your phone calls and texts and send them to EA.
Origin doesn't have a phone app. Instead, EA decided to integrate mobile origin retroactively into every piece of intellectual property they have, despite apple already offering an integrated, better social/achievement manager.

No - no no no no
No way im getting this app! That is a lewd marketing if i ever saw one.
Its completely useless sales are not for 15 minutes. This is exactly to tempt you on using your money while you are bored on the train on your way home. Or waiting for the movie to start at the cinema. Tsk dont use the app people you`ll get a skinny wallet and a fat library on steam xD

Note to the Author:

Please do not say that an App (or Application) could be a threat to someone's credit score, UNLESS it actually goes out to hurt your credit score in some fashion. Just because you can use a credit card with the STEAM service, it will not impact your credit score outside of normal means; but from the title alone, I believed that downloading the app would actually hit my credit rating.

One's credit score can take a hit if the company in question needs to make an inquirer to your score, (such as when you apply for new lines of credit or banking features); or by other means of having a credit agency receive reports of missed or failed payments. As a gamer, I love the concept of the app, but as an adult, I need to slightly get on the defensive if I feel that this would affect my greater goals of responsibility.

tl;dr: "May threaten your credit score" is more of a scaremonger tactic then an actual review of this app, consider changing the title to avoid confusion.

I was slightly disturbed, when Steam greeted me with a "You have been granted to the mobile beta!" thingy today in the morning ...
Then I restarted the app, logged in again and checked around a bit.
First thought: Way. WAY. Too much data transferred. Not that this was unexpected, given the way Steam works, but it's not quite too good when referring to smartphones, since those rely on the not-too-fast-or-stable mobile network mostly, except for those times you actually have a wireless hotspot around you.
Other than that, looks decent and pretty much what's needed to be able to check stuff without having to run Steam on a PC, or even being in range of a PC. 7/10 for now, I'd say.
