Bit of a weird one, but if anyone hasn't got it and wants a copy of Tomb Raider for PC, I have a one steam code you can have.

The code is: XDV7K-ENMMT-B4ZWB

First come first served.

The Tomb Raider reboot was a game where its gameplay was heavily at odds with its story.

"Oh I can't do this" Lara cries for the umpteenth time after climbing up a mountain and brutally dispatching 15 men.

I also just don't see why old Lara could not have been used in the story. She'd be able to do everything new Lara does, just not whine about it all the time.

Neat freebie. Too bad it's not for the second one (Hope it gets an uber Steam sale).

I sometimes wonder if I was playing the same game as everyone else. I found Lara's frequent self conversation lined up fairly well with what was going on, from the beginning when she's constantly voicing her fears, to the middle where she's mostly trying to pump herself up, to the final area, where she's two steps away from selling her soul to Khorne, screaming bloody murder and proclaiming how she's going to kill all you sons of bitches.

Yes, but what's the actual plot got on the power of memes?

Looks like the code's been used. Shame, was interested in giving Tomb Raider a try. Never got around to it back in the day, and with the new one getting good reviews I thought why not.

All hail the meme.

Thanks, Dawkins.

Is that Obama's first name?

But seriously, the story does lag the gameplay some. It's just not as bad as it's made out to be.

The Tomb Raider reboot game is only 20 bucks on steam at it's normal price. With the steam summer sale coming up, I imagine you'll be able to get a hold of the game for as little as five to ten bucks which is totally fucking worth it because the game is fantastic.

Look say what you want about how believable the plot is, but if the game was balanced around Lara's newbish attitude it would have been a very boring game. Or a shitty stealth game, in which she still would have murdered dudes. Look I get how people trash on the story feeling disconnected from the gameplay, but if you can split them apart in your mind while you play, you will have a blast. The controls are tight, the gunplay is fun, the exploration is fun, and the story is pretty cool with a lot of neat set-pieces and events. The build up pays off really well imo.

Fact is, Tomb Raider is a great game. Especially now that you can get it at a budget price.

The Tomb Raider reboots make for good comedy in how it juxtaposes Lara's inexperience in dire, highly emotional situations with how effortlessly and emotionlessly she shreds dudes with a submachine gun while stuff like +500 HEADSHOT BONUS XP!!!! flashes on screen.

Reading through some of your comments, I kinda agree with a bit of everything.

Lovely game, really beautiful... the gameplay isn't bad either. But Lara really gets on my nerves. I don't like the character at all. She never used to annoy me this much!

I'm a huge fan of the series. The new one was the first one I did not get on Release. Because TR2013 was unbearbly bad. Tomb Raider Chronicles didn't do that, Angel Of Dorkness did not do it but TR2013 did. Think about that for a second.

Different strokes I suppose. All I can say is that I found that all the action did not line up with Lara's personality or dialogue.

I actually think it would have made more sense for them to play up the stealth angle of the game more, have Lara avoid combat unless it was absolutely necessary. Yet there she is mowing down the bad guys like she's been doing it all her life. Which is why I said it would have made sense for old Lara to be in the game.

I find it weird in a way that old Lara still exists, in her isometric shooter series and the recent comic series. I wonder if they'll ever put her in a traditional style game again?

I think it had problems but it definitely did not effect my enjoyment of the game and it actually made me like Lara which is something I never thought I would hear myself say as I despised the old Tomb Raider games. So yeah I am glad for the reboot as for the dialogue I feel it could have been stronger but I did enjoy her character arc.

Isn't it just a linear game and hitting QTEs? All I saw/read/heard of it said it was just cutscene/QTE all the time.
There is some side exploring for collectibles but like all other games in the series it's linear.
