User Reviews, Off-Topic and Forum Games has it's own user created guide written by scotth266, Lord Krunk and Higurashi respectively. The opening post of all of these are imporant reading for newcomers.
Don't abuse colours, italics, bold, underline and CAPITAL LETTERS like I just did, they look silly. It can be used at certain time but don't over do it.
To make a link you need to write [*url]www.youtube.com without the * so that it will look like www.youtube.com. You can also make your link look like this [www.youtube.com] by writing [*url=www.youtube.com](content).
Check out everything this website has to offer, you'll find some neat stuff. Try the community map and community part of the website for links to things.
Don't strive for badges or a high post count. We know when someone tries to do this and it makes yourself look bad. A badge isn't worth being labeled a 'badge whore', neither is a high post count.
Reading the guidelines (although really, they are rules) is imporant. Don't think 'Oh it's nothing important, all forums have the same rules, don't be a dick, etc etc' because the guidelines can actually hook youup with some important information, information similar to whats being given in this thread.
Contribute to a thread. Don't post one line responses, don't do things like 'TL;DR' or 'Cool Story, Bro' (massive Djea Vu just then) and when a thread is asking you something don't go 'never' or 'always'. Back up your arguments and put in some detail, even if it's not all that important.
Don't use the search bar, rather type a few key words into a thread a long with 'escapist' to see if it's been done before. This is much easier than the search function. There is a rule that a thread one month old shouldn't be brought back but seeing as how threads nearly two years old still exist I don't think anyone will mind. When bringing back a thread add something of worth, don't just say 'yeah I agree' or something similar. And if you want to bring it back ask yourself if it needs to be brought back or if another will be just fine.
Know the forums and know the key thread topics before making one of your own. If a big thing just happened, like a celebrity dying or a war being declared, than chances are someone has already made a thread on it. Check back at least four pages before making a thread if you feel that there is any chance of it having been done. Coupled with the search bar (Google) there should be no problems with repeat threads.
Don't make a thread with a link to a piece of news and a line or two of your own. If you must link to a piece of news add at least two paragraphs of your opinion onto the matter. Please don't make a thread' Barack Obama found dead' and then link to a parody news article on websites like the Onion. If you didn't know that it was fake maybe you can be forgiven but knowing that it's false and attracting people to your thread under the guise of it being true is trolling. Don't do it.
Urhm, there is other stuff but you need to figure some things out by yourself. Good luck.
