I've read too many stories of parents sueing their local schools because they sent their kid home for wearing an obnxious shirt to have any major sympathy for teens that give their teachers the finger.
It's more disruptive to send someone out over a hat or "offensive" shirt than it is to just let them wear it. I remember I'd walk into class with a hat on all the time because I didn't have space in the tiny lockers they gave us and I need my for things like opening doors or greeting others. Hats go on your fucking head.
I would sit in class not making a peep, nor with anyone else making a peep about my hat, and still teachers would stop their lesson (after the ten minutes it'd take to even notice I had the hat on) and tell that it was "disruptive and I should take it off."
I'd of course oblige just so they'd shut their mouths, because teachers only enforce such rules because they know they can. None of them even know why they do it.
The public school system is hilarious.
It's really anytime you give someone the power of authority, they're going to use it to the highest of their ability. Security guards, teachers, principles, anyone who can tell you to stop doing something or whatever else, they're going to fucking do it.
Why?
Because they have no power otherwise.
It's pathetic.
I was send out of class for wearing brightly colored leggings UNDER a pair of jeans. They jeans were ripped, so they leggings were visible, and my ***** math teacher told me I had to change.
For once I stood up to her ((She used to always be on my case)), I explained why I had them on and whatever else, walked out of class, but never got called down to office or anything, went back the next day, and she never said anything about my outfits another day for the rest of my two years at the school.
