Submit Your Questions for the Upcoming Miracle of Sound Q&A!

Hello Escapists!

As you may have heard, our very own Gavin Dunne has been stricken with an awful case of Tinnitus. For those of you that don't know, Tinnitus is a terrible affliction of the inner ear that causes you to hear a high pitched ringing sound at all times of the night or day. So, in order to make the best of his recovery time and still give you that monthly dose of Miracle of Sound that you've grown to know and love, we're launching a Community Q&A!

You can now submit your question using the form below, and you'll receive a limited edition forum badge just for entering! We will then select some of the best out of the bunch and our Publisher's Club Members will vote for the top ten to be submitted to Gavin, where he will answer them live on camera. Be sure to check back on December 20th to see the video and find out if your question has been answered.

Don't wait! Question submission period ends this Friday! If there's some deep, dark secret question that simply burns within your chest, now's the time to ask!

This is a pretty neat idea. If I think of a good question I may throw it out there. How's he plan on answering them? Is he going to record his answers in a video or write it out in a news post type thing?

Get well soon Gavin!
I'll have to think of a question that wasn't asked at the Expo.

I don't actually have any questions to ask,
but I'd just like to say I hope Gavin feels better and I wish him a good and speedy recovery.

Get well soon!

Brilliant idea to do a Q&A with the down time. Try not to loose your voice too. :p

Problem: Patient suffers from incessant high-pitched buzzing heard at all times.
Solution: Patient should be opened up to a community Q&A.

Oh, the irony...

OT: Sorry to learn about the whole Tinnitus thing, get well soon fella.

There we go, sent in my question. Although in all fairness, I assume it'll be one of the more common ones submitted.

Oh, and of course, get well soon, Gav!

I imagine mine may very well be too, but no harm in asking anyway just in case.

I was wondering when this would be told on the Escapist. I, being the magnificent bastard I am, already knew of it for quite a long time.

Well, the Q&A sounds pretty nice (unlike everything for people with tinnitus [sorry]).
Yeah, I don't really have anything else to say, except for maybe the very predictable "Get well soon".

Oh, oh, the captcha was pretty funny. It says "are you a human?" and you can answer stuff like "no, I am a mineral" "no, I am a robot (beep boop[beeping not actually included]) and "no, I am an alien.
Good times.

Get well soon.

never knew it was a desiase, so if I say keep hearing ringing in my head, how would I know how bad it is? I either get used to it or listen to something to ignore it, can't say I felt it as an affliction.

Sent my question in to Gav and this is a really neat idea.

I really hope Gav gets well soon and that the Tinnitus goes away.

Eh, I've gotta say, I wouldn't expect a thread announcing Gavin's awful, incurable disease to be so, well, weirdly happy. I mean stuff like "you'll receive a limited edition forum badge just for entering!" is just odd.

Nope; He'll never get well. Tinnitus is essentially for life. Once you've got it, it doesn't go away & there is no cure. At best he can hope to mitigate by sleeping with a special tonal noise headphone on, that may reduce the effect over time.

I'm lucky in that my Tinnitus is only in my left ear & is low key enough that i can only hear it when its dead quite. I sleep with a fan on & i rarely ever use headphones, as not to make it worse.

I'll tell you now, i was scared shitless when i got sick last month & got an air bubble in that ear... I was mostly deaf in that ear for the better part of a month, as a complication to the Tinnitus.
Geez, that sounds terrible. Do you have any idea if it would hinder someone's ability to create / appreciate music?

edit: forgot to add, hope you get well Gavin. Even if it's incurable...maybe they'll find a cure, right?

That depends on whether it's chronic or just temporary doesn't it?
I don't know anything about it but a quick google search tells me that you can get temporary tinnitus by short term exposure to loud noises.

"Typically the way it works is that the first few times you expose your ears to loud sounds the tinnitus goes away reasonably rapidly?hours or a day or so?but the more you expose your ears to loud sounds (and the louder the sounds are), the longer it takes for the tinnitus to go away."

I'm just going by what I'm reading on the Internet mind, but either way, I choose to be positive rather than negative in my wish for Gavin to get well soon.

Oh, I had that happen to me once. It happened ages ago and I got it after I was sick as well. I was partially deaf in that one year for probably 2-3 months. It's really weird having to constantly turn your head so that you can hear what someone's saying to you. I was told that it usually clears away on its own but after half a semester of hearing in mono I decided to book a time with a specialist. Ironically, I had to wait for so long, for his appointment, that when I finally got to go to him, he sent me away, saying that it was gonna clear on its own and it popped away while I was waiting for a bus outside.

While there is no cure, there is a temporary and a permanent version. Gavin already stated on his youtube channel that he is hoping that it is the temporary version, so we can go ahead and wish him well.

That said, get well soon, Gavin! Really hope it is not permanent!

Get well soon, Gav. I had tinnitus in high school, I know it sucks.

Let's hope you have the temporary variety.

It's not a disease, it is a symptom.

If you have had it and it didn't feel like an affliction, then you're one of the lucky ones. For those who have it loud and constant, well, it's the worst thing I've ever been through and I've been through quite a lot.
