Sucker Punch Considering Multiplayer for InFamous 2

It's InFamous 2's single player that Sucker Punch is focusing on right now, but don't rule out playing the game with your friends.

InFamous 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Infamous-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0GX88/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1286050843&sr=1-1 ], the sequel to last year's super-powered, open-world, moral sandbox, may wind up with some kind of multiplayer by the time it launches in December. Desginer Darren Bridges said it was one of the features that Sucker Punch was thinking about adding to the game, along with Move support and 3D.

Bridges said that Sony had a number of impressive technologies that it was looking in to, and that multiplayer was just one of them. Multiplayer is by no means a certainty however, as he also said that the main focus was on the single player mode, and that once that was all wrapped up, Sucker Punch would see how other features would fit.

InFamous 2's single player sounds like it is shaping up to be fairly similar to the first game's, with the morality system and side quests making a return. Bridges said that both of these features were big focuses for Sucker Punch, and admitted that some of the side quests in InFamous 1 hadn't quite been as good as they might have liked.

The core of the InFamous games is player choice and how that affects the world around you, and while getting that same feeling in a multiplayer setting might be difficult, a co-op mode where several players roamed the city fighting - or committing - crime might be a lot of fun. Of course, Sucker Punch could go completely the other route and add rooftop lightning bolt death matches, and honestly, that could be a lot of fun too.

InFamous 2 launches on PS3 at some point in 2011.

They should just stick with the Single player since they're still only considering multiplayer modes now. Adding it will just feel horrible and tacted as they won't be able to give it the same degree of care and quality control as the SP.

That's what I thought when I first heard of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's multiplayer, but that turned out well. I'd at least give multiplayer a chance.

If it launches in December, then wouldn't a MP mode at this point just be tacked on? I don't think they could craft a sucessful MP mode with just a little over 2 months left. Do they really want to run the risk? I'd forget about it and maybe do it in the third one or something. Besides that, how could they even make MP work in the Infamous world?

Am I the only one getting the feeling that this guy is sucking up to Sony? I mean, here's what got me:

So Sony has multiplayer technology? Wow! Joking aside, it just seems a bit weird. You'd think EVERY game in this age would at least consider multiplayer in some form, since many single-player only games don't sell well and have a lot of used market sales on top of that. I'm not saying that I want it to have multiplayer, because I don't. I'm getting sick of how many games seem to be forcing some type of multiplayer into the series.

ACB's wasn't still a consideration two months before launch though.

I always fancied the idea of a Cole vs. Alex (of Prototype fame) showdown, implemented somewhere, maybe as a hidden boss. Also the chance to try out my "Evil Cole" against a "Good Cole", and visa versa, was a number one on my wishlist.

This could be cool, but in 2 months ... idk bit risky
Would be cool in the third though
Or if they postponed the release of Infamous 2

Well as long as they don't detract anything from the single player. I much prefer tacted on multiplayer to something that takes priority over singleplayer.

This consideration doesn't really surprise me. I think of this game as similar to the Uncharted franchise in many ways, so this comes along nice with that.

And really, who doesn't consider multiplayer in their games, with the potential map pack profits? If Bioshock could have multiplayer, anything could.

Aslong as the single-player doesn't get side-tracked, I don't care what kind of superfluous slack-jawed multi-player they ad.

That's what I was just about to ask... they kept saying, even at e3, how it will come out next year, but they really got it come a day before my birthday? Bitchin'. Perfect for me lol. I will gladly preorder it for a Christmas present :p

Along with buying Force Unleashed 2 and Fable 3 xD

One day we can live in a world without console exclusives.
I'll be a happier person then.

Yeah, I wondered that to, I heard that it was comming out in February, or am I mixing that up with Killzone 3?

OT: A multiplayer portion of the game would be sweet, but I would prefer if they dedicated most of their time with the single-player. If they are going to do multiplayer, I would hope it wouldn't be tacked on.

Please don't do it... it wouldn't make any sense. There is no reason it needs a multiplayer mode and it would just die after a while like BioShock 2. Not every game needs multiplayer. inFamous 1 did just fine without it.

Oh wow, that could be so much fun. Just imagine, you're roaming the city as a good character, doing your thing, when you're tasked with the objective: "Take down the supervillian". You spend fifteen minutes chasing him down, when finally, BAM! you shoot a lightning bolt his way. He rolls for cover and a massive lighting-firefight starts up. Eventually, he's about to die, so he hops onto a nearby powerline and nearly gets away when...

BOOM! HEADSHOT! (assuming the sniper mode is still there)

Or running around blowing up cars.

...Just the idea of objectives based on other characters online. Obviously teaming up too, but the moral choice system leaves a large room for experimentation. Both characters have superpowers too, so it ends up as an online superhero war.

Could be great, I don't know why you guys wouldn't want that.
