Super Meat Boy on WiiWare Would Be a "Piece of Sh*t"

Well I dunno what team Meat were hoping for when Nintendo decided 512MB would be enough space for developers to work with. My keychain has more space than the Wii.

My Sega CD has more memory.

He comes into this thread and says "dur hurp ill just play mario galaxy." Was that not asking for trouble?
Not in the least, Galaxy 2 is by far the better game.
Super Meat Boy - 15 bucks, very imaginative, very interesting ideas, very fun.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 40-50 bucks, rehash.

That's what I said. Since "Edmund McMillen of Team Meat says there's a simple reason Super Meat Boy isn't coming to WiiWare: Nintendo's limitations on the platform" and also they said "Right now we have talked to three larger publishers who have passed on the title because they believe Wii retail is a bad idea profit-wise," McMillen explained. "Most places we have talked to believe that only Nintendo brand games sell well on their system and don't even understand why we want to release Wii retail." Since this game will be bad as a download and retail because of the wii's limitations. Yet Super Mario Galaxy 2 is superb. Gee.
He didn't say that the game would be bad because of the Wii's limitations on retail. He only said it about download.

He can't release it via retail because there are less and less publishers who still believe anything of any actual quality released on the Wii will sell. Especially with Super Meat Boy, a not-that-well-known game.

And also, why in the hell would you come over here and defend Nintendo? There's no workaround - they're NOT the good guys in this story. Hell, they rarely are the good guys in any story.

"ATTENTION: there will not be a Wiiware version of SMB..."

When I read this I thought "Funny. I thought Super Mario Brothers already had something on Wiiware" and then it hit me how stupid I sounded as the thread is talking about Super Meat Boy. Damn acronyms always confusing me.

How are people even comparing Galaxy 2 and Super Meat boy? Galaxy is a full 60 dolar game, Super Meat Boy is an indie platformer you download... The SMB Dev isn't even saying the Wii is bad, they just can't squeeze the data into a Wiiware form without making a crapy game due to software and hardware limitations. I'm glad they are at least admiting they can't do it rather than sell out and make a crapy game, and end up taking people's money.

Comparing Super Meat Boy and Mario Galaxy 2 is like comparing a cookie to a cake. They're both good, one just happens to be smaller in size.

Wii isn't for "Hardcore" gamers and games. I'm not being a "hater" but it isn't. That's not to say there arn't any good challenging games on it but the Wii was designed from the start to be simple, cheap, a little gimmicky and to appeal to your grandparents.

I'd expect most people who would buy Meat Boy already have another system capable of playing (Be it Xbox, PS3, or PC).

Yet Super Mario Galaxy 2 is superb. Gee.
Aside from the fact he's clearly talking about downloadable games he said clearly that only Nintendo games tend to sell according to publishers. What point are you trying to make? Because currently your post is affirming the quote you appear to think you're arguing against.

"Only Nintendo games sell well on the Wii? Then why has Super Mario sold so well?!"

I'll stick with a better platformer like Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Edmund is a poor indie dev from san diego

nintendo are a multi million dollar corporation with a team of hundreds of devs.

Nintendo have been well established since the 80s, Ed started out with flash games a few years ago.

comparing the two is pretty ridiculous dude, sorry, the guy managed to take Xbox live by storm with a neat little platformer that has critical acclaim from a number of websites, and with a shoestring budget.

but if you want to hate :/

OT: Ed is right, the wii would have poorer visuals, you wouldnt be able to compress the game that much, if he had a bigger team and a publisher I bet he could make it work though.

offT: I used to kind of know Ed, I was part of a tight knit community at the thisisacryforhelp website and now hes all famous making games and shit, cool.

Good, I wouldn't want the best game of the year being downgraded simply for the sake of profit - Wii users can't handle a game this original, it might be rejected for fear of positive change. I wonder what DLC characters it would have had though. How about Samus, who has the ability to remain motionless and start talking about how miserable she is and never shutting the fuck up?

A big muti-million budget game, or a indie game that was made using flash originally. Because you can compare those two games. Sounds like Aura just has an almighty stick stuck up his arse to me.

OT: I really don't see how this game became popular in this FPS twitch market. But kudos to Edmund, I remember playing one of his eariler games and thinking how it was amazing, now he's on two major platforms signing up deals. It's Nintendo's loss, just like how Sony didn't cash in time and lost the game to Microsoft. Still, their decsion.

aww I would have liked it on the Wii, I hate the default unchangeable (they should fix that) controls for non Xbox 360 controllers on the PC and I don't like using a keyboard. I do hope they do manage to find a publisher for retail, I would buy it, and I know a lot of people would too.

Edit: If they are going to try going retail why not try the DS? sure they wont be able to do DLC but surely it could fit on a DS cart, or if you really wanted to have the DLC maybe release it for the 3DS when that is released to my knowledge the 3DS will have DLC, they would probably make much more money on the DS than on the Wii anyway.

The pretentiousness of those publishers is astounding. They primarily employ third or fourth-string development teams to create Wii titles and then act all suprised that they are not selling millions. This isn't rocket science, the reason for the success of Nintendo titles is quite simple. They employ their best and brightest to develop games for the platform, not some random Joe Shmoe they picked up from the streets. These publishers will have to do the same if they are hoping to achieve similar results.
Agreed.

The reason there isn't much of a market for "hardcore" third-party games on the Wii is because the big third-party publishers destroyed the market in an attempt to earn a quick and easy buck. They tried to copy Nintendo without ever really understanding what Nintendo was doing.

Ok, I can understand not putting it onto the Wii because of the brandwidth limitation, but why not the PSN? I don't understand.
Sony aren't interested in it apparently, Didn't think it was going to be good, Obviously Sony have a crippling fear of money and success

So....I can download Ogre battle 64 which can take more than two months to finish, but I can't download Super Meat Boy...

Guess that I have to wait for the Mac version.

Normally, I'd defend the Wii as The Future of Console Gaming (since that's the direction Sony and Microsoft is heading in, whether you like it or not), but the WiiWare's size restriction is a joke, especially considering it's possible to run any Wii Shop download from any old SD card (which includes the big 16Gb cards AFAIK).

That said, I do have to point out that all of Tales of Monkey Island's episodes managed to squeeze into this restriction, so I do think that Team Meat shouldn't be absolved of all responsibility.

why no PS3?
Microsoft got them to sign a contract first, and it had a "no PSN version" clause. Super Meat Boy was originally announced for WiiWare and PC, thus Microsoft couldn't put in a "no Nintendo version" clause in there as well.

Whoops, I still haven't got round to buying this game. Guess I'll get it from Xbox live, 'though it's a shame about the Wii. Wii only owners are missing out on what sounds like a wonderful game.

But to be quite honest, I think the real reason why they are trying to avoid the Wii is beacuse they don't want it to remain successful...afterall, big publishers much prefer console manufacturers that rely mostly on third-party titles, since it forces those manufacturers to help fund and advertise major third-party titles.
This. Oh my God, this.

And this is just more truth to add to the laundry list of why the Wii is not for a hardcore gamer, fucking Nintendo will never learn...

Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias looks better and Cave Story is bigger.
Looks like "maybe it's possible but not worth it."
