The trailer for the first ever videogame theme park is here. opening Summer 2020 in Japan.

thoughts?

(mods feel free to move to general discussion if this is better suited there despite the videogame theme)

Would be sweet if they'd actually show something related to what's going to be at Universal Studios rather than a bunch of people hopping and dancing in front of a green screen.

For all we know they'll just have a bunch of Mario themed mascots walking around Universal, sell some Mario themed merchandise and food, maybe have one of those 3D rollercoaster rides with a mario video.

bit hard to show the physical park since it's still under construction.

this trailer is showing more the concept of the park and ideas for like the phone app and how it briefly showed off what they intend to have as the mario kart ride.

They could have done a far better job of conveying their concept, maybe show 3D renders of stuff that they are actually building instead of a bunch of people hopping and dancing in front of a green screen.

Maybe it'll do well in Japan, space is tighter over there. But I think that the heyday of the themepark in general is coming to a close. Too much crunch for time, travel, and expense for the generations of today to afford it.

gee that sounds exciting.

little timmy would definitely want to buy tickets because of a model he saw. you should definitely work in marketing.

Bluegate has a good and valid point. That video has as much to do with the evaluation of the quality of the theme park as "cinematic trailers" do for games - none. And you just asked for thoughts.

Besides, 3d modeling in modern construction is becoming a norm, especially when they touch high tech industries. Some kind of Rollercoaster Tycoon-like sim is completely feasible for marketing. Hell, it wouldn't be anymore work than the CG fest the trailer already is. The only purpose this trailer serves is to generate pure hype out of nothingness, and mindless adherence to that empty hype is buying into crass commercialist excess. Just being a consumerist tool, rather than an informed purchaser. While one can excuse that for children (although I regard it as an unhealthy attitude to permit children to have), adults should aim higher than to be pawns for corporate masters.

And I'm not even a Socialist.

Don't worry, little one. I'm sure Nintendo-san will notice you exist some day.

It sure took them long enough. Are you sure it is the first one ever? Pokemon is so popular that I wouldn't surprised if it already existed a Pokemon theme park somewhere in Japan.

PS: Oh no! If Super Mario Odyssey taught me something is to never put the Mario cap on your head!

Out of all the console manufacturers we have vying for our yearning attention, it's nice to see one actually focus and put the effort into raising their body count.
