Super-powered Saints Row Expansion Dropping this Fall

Super-powers and aliens are all the rage in virtual Steelport.

THQ has been having some financial troubles, but one of its successes has been Saints Row: The Third. In a bid to capitalize on that success, the publisher announced that Volition is hard at work on Saints Row: The Third - Enter the Dominatrix, a standalone expansion that will run players $29.99 on release this fall for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The expansion will add super-powers into the already absurd Saints Row universe of over-the-top, downright silly action. An alien warlord named Zinyak has been eyeballing Earth for resources and women, and he knows that the only forces that can stop him are the Third Street Saints. To keep his plans from being disrupted, Zinyak abducts the player, imprisoning them in a virtual Steelport where they can apparently use super-powers.

THQ says that more will be revealed on the title this summer.

2. Seems...Dead Rising-ish

I suppose a subverted updated rerelease would be a logical step for THQ to take since theyre basically broke.

Though, gotta love the concept. Hope they dont goof it.

In all honesty, if they released a standalone Multiplayer with the game modes from the first Saint's Row, I would literally throw money at that game. $30 would be easily justifiable in that case.

This will not be worth it in my opinion. SR3 was already on the downward slide compared to the first two.

The money I would pay to play Blinged Out Ride with fully functional MP again.

Well I think it's safe to say that Volition has officially nuked the fridge when it comes to the Saints Row franchise. I really think they had a good style going with SR2. Yes it had its moments of absurdity but it managed to walk that same fine line Goodfellas accomplished when it came to larger than life gang wars. SR3 is too absurd. It overshot that wit we saw in the first two installments and landed squarely in the realm of self-parody.

This expansion, is just too much. They're not even trying to make it a tongue in cheek gangster drama anymore.

Wait, wait. $29:99? I'm not sure what that is in british money, but I'll bet it ain't the usual price of expansions. It had better really add to the game if it's to be that much. They can't just chuck a few missions in and some new stuff not even including weapons available in said missions like gangstas in space. Seriously, if they don't play this carefully, this will be a disaster for them.

THIS oh my god THIS
I LOVED B0R, if they just released that game mode as an XBLA title I would pay whatever they asked, just to play that game again!

That's about £18.54, which is in the ballpark for a standalone expansion.

Even though the single GTAIV expansions were 1600msp or about £13.60 each as DLC, both the standalone Episodes From Liberty City and Undead Nightmare Collection were $29.99 or around £20 when released on disc.

Standalone expansions are always going to be a little bit more expensive than the DLC equivalent as it's more expensive to produce, package and distribute an expansion pack on a disc than it would be to just release it as DLC which requires the original game.

Four main reasons I'm absolutely buying this expansion pack:
1) SR3 was my favorite game of 2011, bar none, and all I've ever wanted from it was more of said game.
2) SR3 is basically the only big comedy/sci-fi game that's come out recently that has been at all successful and I absolutely want to encourage more development in that genre. God I've missed off-beat sci-fi.
3) The Season 1 DLC may have been a little short, but they really nailed the writing and the missions in those. With enough time on their side to make a full expansion pack (something we rarely see from anybody but Bethesda these days) I have high hopes they'll make something special.
4) It's from Volition. If there's any brilliant development house out there that is in serious risk of getting shuttered and absolutely deserves to stay afloat it's them.

In all fairness, going way back, this was not an uncommon price for a stand alone expansion. You won't need the original game to play and it's not DLC. It's an expansion.

OT: Good, I'm about it. I loved the SR3 and I would love to have a super powered character to explore with. Also, I like THQ, so I'll be buying to help keep them going.

I would be interested to see what would happen in Volition created a Kickstarter for such a project.

Unfortunately I don't think as many people experienced the first game as much as the second and third, which means they don't know any better and don't realize that Strong Arm was crap and a lack of MP is disappointing.

you know, I was deciding to post in this, and captcha convinced me to do so

I loved Saint's Row 3. I liked all Saint's Row for different reasons. Saint's Row was the best GTA clone to come out. Saint's Row added more story. Saint's Row the third realized that most people wanted to be 1.) the worst human being possible and 2.) do so in audacious ways. Mission freaking accomplished. I just wish they would make dlcs to specifically give us more than 3-4 missions for each event. That's the only thing that made me feel cheated.

But I'm so used to feeling cheated with today's gaming market that I can even over look that.

captcha: one hit wonder.

Ok, Captcha. I look forward to meeting you in the field of battle.

I don't know if I'm excited about this or not, the DLC for S3 have been kind of crappy and overpriced. Hell the only one that was actually good (imo) was the lastest one and what made that awesome was the super powers, which they sadly didn't let you carry into the single player game.
I'd rather have a Saints Row 4 instead of more Saints Row 3 to be honest.

You mean they can't just do what R* did with GTA4?
I think that's what they're counting on.

Yes please. I need to buy all that Saints Row 3 DLC now that I have money.
Once exams are over, I am going back to playing games in full, starting with this most batshit insane king of crazy fun-ness.

Capctha: mustachioed, is that even a word?
Yes it's a word.

On the flip side, I can't support it because it's THQ and Volition.
