This isn't something Superman would do. He's true neutral. Though, I suppose it varies on the writer.
Surely, as a true neutral character. it would make more sense for Superman to have now affiliations with a specific country.
Yes, of course, but he wouldn't turn it in to a political spectacle. He made the point of saying that his desire was to observe how humans ran their world, not shape them in his image.

Besides, why would he have to make a big showing of leaving the country- he's Superman, who's going to stop him coming or going as he pleases?

If he's at one place the most, it's probably the fortress of solitude anyway.

Well yes, Superman always did embody the american way, Illegal Immigration.
When'd the Native American Indians nationalise all of you guys?
The joke doesn't really work, since "Native" American Indians were immigrants as well, they had just come over from Asia awhile back.

Remember kids, if you say you care more about the global community than the glorious "GOD BLESSED" America, then you are an anti-American scumbag that promotes radical [anything not originating in America] agendas and the destruction of American values and lives!

..And I wish that was sarcasm for most of those comments posted, sadly.

Although it is still humorous that the American right is getting up in arms about a character that is practically what illegal foreign immigrants are in reality in regards to American society today. I suppose if they were superpowered illegal foreign immigrants, they'd have no issue with them. But normal human ones?

Fuck 'em!
Now now, you know if they had superpowers the right would *loudly* proclaim that they would have to rounded up and placed in "quarantine zones" to protect *real* Americans.

Great, now real-world politics have invaded comics... thank god I quit reading them about 5 years ago so I wouldn't feel I'm wasting my money.

I lol'd at these "Pro-Americans". Nationality is useless garbage/luggage. Get over yourself and start embracing other cultures and people.
Please do us all a favor and stop being silly. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about and really should just not say anything.

National pride and group identification can be both VERY good and VERY bad. The idea that supporting the ideals of this country and being proud of our accomplishments is somehow denigrating to the rest of the world is nonsense. To assume that people who display/believe in national pride are not capable/willing to embrace other cultures is nonsense.
You missed my point and I have really no time to write it all out. I have no intention to insult people who do cling to whatever their nation done in the past. I see no point in it but I understand your perspective. Lets call it a day.
Ok, this is something that gets on my neves no matter who does it, but if you don't have time to write out your entire point, THEN DON'T MAKE YOUR POST. Honestly it your first post sounded like you were insulting those people, so his response was appropriate.

I like how there isn't even any logic in it.

Superman goes from being an US-Citizen to being a World-Citizen.
This is America Hate how?

America is part of the world. In his transsition he doesn't take away his affection for america, but takes on some more for the rest of the planet. How is this in any way bad for America? It is still part of this world, right?

preldi fpake,

Once again Fox News reports on something that is not the news.
And this is not news how? It doesn't matter how unimportant some people think a certain story is, it is still news if some people haven't heard about or knew about it.

I could find measurements done on grass in America that say that it grew an inch in three days. I could report this, even if the majority of people don't care about it, if it wasn't known to people, than it is news.

Anything can be news, no matter how unimportant or not urgent it is.

Oh brother. Another attempt to make a super hero more appealing to the global community. What's next? Is wonder woman going to turn all her stars red? Sorry, but that's just silly. Supes draws fans based on his appeal to the American community, (since that's been his marketing thing for who knows how long) so don't be surprised if DC decides to recton this. Geez. Who needs politics in comic books anyway?

P.S. So, everyone's surprised that Fox News published an even-handed story? I would recommend you actually WATCH Fox news before forming opinions about it. (And no, the Oreilly Factor and Glenn Beck don't count because those are OPINION shows on the Fox News Network. Try watching the actual Fox News show) I'll refrain from using statistics on balance between CNN and Fox News. Look it up yourself if you actually care about forming an independent opinion.

*Sigh* It's by the guy who wrote the Batman movies.
The second one was a giant supportive metaphor for the Bush agenda.
He's just telling stories. If they happen to use real-world politics to make the stories more interesting, so be it. There's no actual political bias.

Sickening. Simply sickening. For people who go ranting on about a supposed freedom they sure act a lot like North Korea. You know, the mindset where if you leave the country you're a 'traitor'. I approve of supermans change because the truth is I never saw him as this flag waving nationalist dick wad. He is a symbol of the world, not a symbol of blind patriotism and moronic drivel. In short, he's not Fox news. Superman fights for what's right in the entire world, not just America.

Besides, a CANADIAN invented him.

Pardon my ignorance on approximately 60 years worth of Superman lore, but wasn't the dude with the most obvious disguise NOT born in the US, or even on this planet? So why pray tell would he have to limit his actions to one specific geographic region when he can fly?
Oh wait, I'm reading too much into this. Simple fact is, Fox is retarded, people who comment on stories or worse youtube are generally insufferable cretins (not us, of course *shifty eyes*), so it would logically follow that people who comment on Fox things are retarded insufferable cretins.
This is my favourite post.

I can't really add more to this other than to say I think it's an interesting move that will be retconned if the fans don't buy it.
Superman symbolises American values all over the world, but he's also made it very clear he's interested in protecting all of humanity. This is just a logical step.

Also 'prospective'?

Look, I'm going to be the first amongst anyone to jump down the throat of any liberal Hollywood scumbag pushing a message onto the populace (I'm looking at YOU, Glee producers) but I have to admit that from this synopsis, this story DOES look pretty even. I guess the only reason I can say that, though, is because I'm not entrenched with a figure that has been one of the oldest and most "American" role models in the comic industry for the last seventy years. I can imagine that this is a big smack in the jaw to anyone who remembers the time when he joined American forces in beating up Nazis in WW2.

Figured this ad was a requirement. Canadians should remember it well.

It's pretty obvious that this is meant for global marketing appeal. Comes with globalization, just have to deal with it. I always found the notion of Superman being connected to 'truth, justice and the American way' somewhat counteractive due to the first two being cancelled out by the second (that's not a dig at Americans by the way, insert any nationality and you've got the same problem). But it's just a gimicky marketing plan anyway, not like Superman's going to go all Authority and become pro-active in world affairs.

Wow, all this story proves is people want their way of life in everything and they will get pissed off about it regardless of what it is if it doesn't conform to their view
