The 6.82 update to Dota 2 has been nothing short of a boon to hard supports. Rotating to secure runes is no longer a thankless task, as picking up the bounty rune nets the support/offlaner a bit of gold to compensate them for leaving lane. Denying the enemy mid both runes also helps keep bottle-reliant heroes in check.

The tweaks to gold and exp gain also mean that supports who net kills late game can afford to get some actual items up and the price reduction on TPs means it's not always going to be a choice between being a good support and having boots.

Hopefully this makes heroes reliant on early boots, like my personal favorite Crystal Maiden, a little bit more viable.

I swear he ain't using real words.

The last DOTA2 comics I could relate to, taking into account my League of Legends experience. But this one... sorry, I don't get it. Might be a bit too specific to the game for people who haven't played it to understand.

Edit: Juste read the tags. Made me laugh, so I guess job's done :D

OP, as a fellow Crystal Maiden lover, let me just say that her face in the image captures the spirit of CM hard support between 6.80 and 6.82 perfectly.

... Damn, just looking at it evokes a touch of the same emotional erosion and stress.

I love how Icefrog is giving supports a little help here and there through these patches. Don't get me wrong, it's still a thankless job and people will place the whole of the blame on you first chance they get. But at least now I can afford something other than brown boots.

And yet you have the fast ass entitled carries that believe that supports shouldn't touch those runes either and then ***** and moan when a support takes the rune because they couldn't fill their 2/3 bottle :|

I typically play support (which means I know what it's like to be a poor CM) and it's good to see that you can actually get gold for early items while you're babysitting or going lane support. Heaps of supports need mana boots ASAP which are pretty hard to get if you're not getting last hits.

Nice to see sympathy for the supports.

Sounds like what Face of the Mountain, Frostqueen's Claim and Talisman of Ascension are in LoL?

Sooo... How long until conservatives demand these runes get removed because the supports no longer have to work hard for their gold and get to live it up buying rapiers left and right on the ancients valuable tax money?

Damn you CM! I was close to booting up steam and starting to download DotA 2 again. But I won't... but it was close.

I played a bit of DotA late in the beta and for the most part I found it to be fun but slow. I heard its gotten better but right now I'm holding out for Heroes of the Storm.

In my brief time there (playing mostly sniper) I found that the best way to deal with Pudge some times was to just... go else were. Hes not a carry so farming stuff isn't so vital. Not feeding that stupid hook is the best way to fight it. Later in the game beating the crap out of it was really rewarding.

Everything about this patch should in theory make supports better. Which is why I'm really confused that so far in my it seems like picking 5 carries and just waiting it out to the late game seems to guarantee success.

If you pick a sensible team: Mid, Offlane, Carry, Support/Jungler and Hard Support. If the enemy picks 5 carries then sure you'll stomp the early game but that doesn't matter anymore. You go 20 kills ahead by 20 minutes and all they need to do is get a pick off on someone and they're back in the game.

You can't even just try and push to end it fast before they get a chance to come back because they nerfed deathballing so hard.

As a support player this patch has made me so sad :(

If someone wants to tell the 3k MMR bracket this, would be appreciated.

I swear I'm the mind of a decent DOTA player trapped in the body of someone unlucky.

This CM/Bounty Rune depiction is on Par with Nerf Now's. Love it.

Well, you should still let the mid pick up the rune to fill his 2/3 bottle because they'll most likely use those 2 charges on you and themselves before picking up the rune. And then they can give you the bounty rune afterwards anyway. Bitching and moaning would be justified in that situation.

All I see the bounty rune as is more incentive for rotations. Lower skilled pub lanes used to be much more stagnant and now they're slightly more bustling because of rune control. When I play as support, bounty runes don't make me feel any richer because of the nerf to tower gold, but they help with getting early levels which is much more important. Bounty runes also counter-balance the tower buffs somewhat by rewarding map control.

Its simple really: gold is a lot, lot easier to come by after this patch and the comeback mechanics mean a couple of good teamfights can pull you back into it.

Consequently EVERYONE is virtually guaranteed to have a decent bit of gold. Sounds like support heaven but its not...because it means that heroes that scale with gold are favoured. They're guaranteed to get the gold to get their items. Hence hard supports haven't really benefited too much, and a number have dropped a little (Crystal Maiden experienced a slight drop for example before leveling off again) because they just don't scale enough.

Instead a number of hard carries that are item reliant are way, way up. Antimage jumped by 3%, Naga Siren by 3%, Phantom Assassin by 5% all the way up to Spectre who experienced a 10% winrate jump. Even Medusa went up by a full 5%.
