Graphically not very impressive but gameplay like looks excellent and looks like pure immersive sim we need in this day and age.

hopefully they make good multiple endings. like one where you can join shodan, one where you defeat her as usual, and one where you join the many.

All this really tells us is that we'll be shooting monster dudes, even though combat was probably the least interesting part of its predecessors. As a gameplay trailer for a System Shock game, this is a big fat meh. If it wasn't for Shodan, this could be a trailer for a generic sci-fi fps.

generic FPS game with most intelligent level design in history and pure immersive sim. yeah, not.

Nothing in the trailer indicates anything more than Bioshock and/or Deus Ex: Human Revolution type level design. Which is pretty good, you know, but I think you're overestimating the ambition of the product here a tad.

Does it? You can try to predict those thing because it's called System Shock 3, but until it releases you don't actually know.

But let's just assume it's true. That System Shock 3 has intelligent level design and is an immersive sim. This trailer does a horrible job at telling us those things. It doesn't show any clever level design. It doesn't show any hallmarks of immersive sims at all.

All it does show is some creature designs and some shooting. Oh, and that Shodan is in it, because fanservice.

all trailer show is glimpsy of footage. Its immersive sim and not full blown shooter so dont except some kind of amazing gunplay. but what make these games so good are immersion and level design. so the small glimpsy of gameplay footage is very impressive.

Warren spector is making this game and Deus Ex is still greatest game of all time. unless they screwed it up so badly. which i hope not.

Shodan's face always creeped me out, but seeing it in high-def makes it look absolutely horrifying. Looks kinda neat though, never played the originals. Might have to get into the series with this one.

Sure mate. A good gameplay trailer does more than just hype people, but should also tell people what the game is about. This System Shock 3 trailer does not do that. It tells very little about the game, what its gameplay will be like, what mechanics will return, which have changed or what will be new. We know we'll shoot things and that Shodan is in it, but we haven't learned anything we didn't already know before. It's a decent teaser, but as a gameplay trailer it's laughable.

Also, I don't find "person x is working on it" a very compelling argument that a game will be good. Warren Spector basically hasn't done anything worthwhile in the last 15 or so years, unless you consider Epic Mickey a misunderstood masterpiece.

I would've preferred if Shodan just stayed dead. I know she's literally the face of the series and there's nothing else to sell it on but the fact that they keep reviving her makes every other ordeal pointless. At least Wesker stayed dead in RE, even if that meant making up Wesker Jr and She-Wesker to try keep up fan interest. Most of System Shock 2 was another AI anyway and it worked just fine as a replacement villain.

Huh. Looks neat.

Alrighty, System Shock 3. Prey2017 set the bar pretty dang high as a spiritual successor. Let's see if you can clear that bar.

To be fair, it's REALLY hard to show something like that off in a 1 minute teaser trailer.

Immersive sims need time dedicated to showing the many ways solutions you can find to a given problem. And when you're trying to make a 60 second hype reel to catch the attention of people, especially in a genre that's not known to sell super well (sadly), you unfortunately need to go for the lowest hanging fruit, which is "Pew Pew shooty shooty, oh look, cool monsters!!" if you want any hope of attracting mass eyeballs. :s

I do hope we get a more detailed trailer showing all the good stuff later though. :)

It doesn't show any hallmarks of immersive sims at all.
LIES!

It shows us MULTIPLE ventilation shafts! XD If that ain't a hallmark of the genre, I dunno what is! ...Maybe keypads with the code 0451, but that's about it!

True, tho that pre-alpha gameplay footage disclaimer might indicate something else: that they're not showing much of anything because there's nothing to show yet. Either that, or they're not feeling confident showing what they do have, if you're more cynically inclined.

Planning on lining up an interview for us on this one. After Underworld Ascendant, I'm very curious how that studio is gonna meet expectations.
underworld ascendent is made by different team. System shock 3 is being made by warren spector.

Deus Ex and Daikatana are both made by Ion storm and difference between both games are day and night as one is consider to be one of the best game of all time while other is one of the biggest failure.

Fun fact: while looking up some background info on System Shock, I learned Dead Space was originally intended to be System Shock 3, but the executives at EA weren't interested until Visceral Games (then still EA Redwood Shores) retooled it after the release of Resident Evil 4, until it eventually became the game we know today.

Not very relevant to the thread, I know.

I hadn't heard that but I can totally see it, and I'm not even really that into Dead Space(though I have friends who love it).

Actually, it's more relevant than you realize. At the time Dead Space and Bioshock were as close as you were going to get as sequels to System Shock. Then you had games like Singularity, Prey (2017), Evil Within 2 (arguably), and Atomic Heart picking up the slack. After 20 years, the sequel is here. Which leaves Half Life 3 as the new Duke Nukem Forever. I am sure SS3 will be good, but it will have a lot to live up to in many circles, as there have been many SS style games over the past 20 years. I made a thread called "Do You Still Think There Needs To Be a System Shock 3 on another site last year. Honestly, people want it, so more power to them. I will keep a look out.
