Use this threat to discuss any Tabletop games you currently play, or used to play.

This can range from simple Board Games, to Miniature War Games, or Role Playing, etc.

I recently got back into tabletop gaming when my brother, and a couple other people revisited Warhammer Quest. If you're unfamiliar with WHQ, it's essentially a more simple type of D&D adventure game. Unfortunately it is no longer made by Games Workshop, and it's rather difficult to find cheap these days, but luckily we were into it when it was still around. The game can be played with single quests or by advancing your characters, finding new treasures, and exploring more dangerous dungeons.

This is a great website if you ever get interested: http://www.wqchronicles.com/ - It's a good game if you're like me and enjoy D&D style gameplay, but are too dumb and old to start D&D.

I've also been playing Space Hulk as well (Yes another game that's no longer made).

The pattern being... I used to be very much into Warhammer back in the late 90's... mostly Warhammer 40,000. I have a decent sized Chaos army at the moment, but the rules have changed so much and I've been away from it for so long, I've had no desire to get back into it.

A few years back, some co-workers got me playing Magic: The Gathering. Unfortunately I don't see them much anymore and no one else I know plays. Plus I never really got the rules down, so I can't really teach anyone else to play. So I've been stuck now with hundreds of Magic cards that I keep in a drawer next to my condoms (No joke).

Other than that, I like to dabble in a few simple board games...

My favorites being:

- Fireball Island - The more people you have playing the game, the more fun you'll have, it can get quite hectic, and hilarious if you play with fun people.

- Omega Virus - One of the first talking, audio-driven board games from the early 90's, it's simple, fast, and fun.

I played Warhammer 40K at my friends house. It was good but not good enough to get the big bucks required for the miniatures. I played D&D for around a year but haven't played any tabletop RPG in awhile.

Unfortunately, I only realized it wasn't good enough for the big bucks after spending hundred on an army. *sigh*

I would fucking own you all with my 6th edition WFB Goblin army, but the 7th edition came along and the insane expolits are no longer possible, so I say fuck that shit.
No one ever said you have to follow the new rules anyway.

If I ever got back into 40k... I'd play with the rules I started with... which I think were the 2nd edition... not sure.

I have about 10,000 points of Eldar sitting in their bags for 40k, but probably won't ever play them much. After having seen the new Imperial Guard codex I have decided that GW is full of it and is truly only concerned about their checkbook. They have thrown any semblance of game balance out the window in a thinly veiled attempt to sell more of the new and shiny (don't forget expensive) models.

Don't believe me? Compare the point values, availability, firepower, and armor of Valkyrie/Vandettas to Eldar grav tanks. You know, the Eldar - supposedly the most technologically advanced race in the 40k universe, which were supposed to have the best skimmers because that was what they did. I call bullshit!

In response, I will probably be playing Flames of War soon. :)

Munchkin. It's An rpg, in card form. And quite humorous.
Thats quite fun to sit down and have a few drinks over. If only because when someone starts drunkenly taking it seriously its hilarious.

I think they remade it recently. Lots of fun again, much more so than the main games of 40K and WFB. Myself, I play a bit of the above with some warmachine.

I doubt it, Game Workshop seems to have abandoned all those smaller games from back in the day... WHQ, Space Hulk, Necromunda, etc..

If all goes according to plan I'll be DMing a 2nd Edition AD&D campaign sometime soon. Of the people who are interested, I think I'm the only one who plays 2E; all the others are used to 3.5. And I only have one PHB.

It's going to be interesting, to say the least.

Only game I still own from my tabletop days is Cosmic Encounters. That game rules, especially with five or six peops, double powers. Insane!

I've played just about everything though, from Warhammer and Battletech minitures to Warhammer 40k and Buffy the Vampire Slayer boardgames to D&D and White Wolf roleplaying.

Some of my fondest memories though were of playing HoL in college with all my non-gamer friends. So simple, yet so chaotic, everyone could have an awesome time. I was Captain Wacky. *jingle-jingle

You can still play them though! I've got a lot of the pdfs from before they took down the SG site, so myself and my mates still have lots of fun.

EDIT: I was thinking of this though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_Roleplay. Now that game is a lot of fun. Not Quest, though I've played that, Hero Quest and Space Hulk.

I freaking LOVED Mage Knights, but after 2.0 came out WizKids discon-FUCKING-tinued them!!!
ANGER

DnD is a must play, although I'd rather play 3.5 or even 2nd Ad&D over the filth that is 4th edition any day.

There's a lot of good board games out there.

-Axis and Allies: Can't go wrong with it, but it gets a bit simple after awhile.
-Twilight Imperium: Awesome game, although a bit of rules-twisting makes it much more exciting. It's also painfully long for the impatient "KILL KILL KILL" type.
-Tanhauser: Killing Nazis with laz0rz and Allies with demonic stuff.
-Arkham Horror: A must play for any Lovecraft fan.
-ZOMBIES!!!: A fun and simple zombie game. XD
-A Game of Thrones: Strategy game based off of GRRM's masterpiece.
-Any of the Blizzard board games (Warcraft, WoW, Starcraft) are pretty fun and very simple.
-Talisman: Simple. And also: fun.
