I got Tourist, at 55%. Honestly, I didn't think I'd score that high. Also, I was tempted to purposefully answer the Python question wrong.

[sub]I'm still weirded out after the pure water question, even though I learned that years ago.[/sub]

I call shenanigans on question 13. Experts can't agree on how much water we need, so how are we expected to answer the correctly? I got answers ranging from 8 ounces to a gallon as I looked it up after taking the quiz.

Another one I am going to call out is number 18. Sure climbing a tree is a good way to get your bearings but what happens if you fall and get hurt? Hint: you're screwed. Chances are if you are lost in a forest there is someone looking for you within hours and a nice fire is a good way to get noticed quickly. It even says in the explanation of the answer "The greatest danger of becoming lost in the woods is that it's as hard for rescuers to find you as it is for you to find your way out. If you are unable to safely climb a tree, or locate either a clear patch of ground or some means by which to find your way to safety, the safest thing you can do is stay put, provide for your immediate needs of shelter, water and food, and wait for rescue." All the other choices are listed if you can't safely climb a bloody tree. In the woods you can't safely climb a tree because you have no backup plan if you do. Safety isn't just preventing things from happening it is being prepared for them to happen. In the woods you really aren't equipped to properly handle a broken bone should you fall while climbing a try, and you sure as hell can't survive with a broken bone if you run into other animals.

Number 11. The rescue dog with the brandy isn't entirely bullshit. The logic I found behind it is you drink it and keep close to the dog that is letting off a ton and a half of heat and the dog brings you to safety. The brandy isn't so much to help you survive as it is to prevent frostbite on her extremities since you have a source of heat that is walking you home. Though I doubt a St. Bernard (that's what those dogs were right?) has actually carried brandy to help rescue people that is the logic I see behind it.

Several of those questions are situational. For example, the Bear question? Depends entirely upon which specie of bear you've run into. What works for a Black Bear, doesn't for a Brown, or Kodiak, or Grizzly, and vice versa.
Also, male or female matters much more than species. You can tell a lot of times. Females with have other bears with her, usually cubs. It also matters if you have food on you.

I'm a tourist. Honestly thought I would do worse... Anyways fun quiz, although I didn't see what that one question about the airspeed velocity had to do with anything.

Now, I disagree with some of the things in this quiz.

Firstly, a tent contains ground cover and sky cover, so shouldn't it be more essential than just ground cover?

I also disagree that a person needs at least a gallon of water a day to survive. Is it really impossible to survive on less?

Finally, are soldiers not trained to cope with survival situations? They surely can't be trained to ignore risk. That would be counter-productive. They must be trained to assess risk, and calculate the most effective way of dealing with it, right?

Oh, and one more thing. Cimbing a tree is a risky activity. If you fall and injure yourself, you've severely damaged your chances of survival. Surely you should build a shelter instead, especially if you can only go three hours without one.
