I got around 45% the first time. Not bad, especially since what I got right was some of the most basic and practical stuff, I think. I also like how I was able to get the answer to #19 right the first time because it was in the Zombie Survival Guide.

The quiz is nice and all, but I get the real message. Russ Pitts helped create this quiz. Therefore, Russ Pitts can survive earthquakes. Do not attempt to damage Russ Pitts.

I agree that all correct answers should be given at the ending, I know nothing more about surving that I did when I started the quiz.

And here I thought that watching all those episodes with Bear Grylls would get me the 100% score. *goes back and tries again*
That's actually how I got all my answers for this quiz actually, guess I need to brush up some more just in case it actually happens to me.

Former boyscout, been in several wilderness survival scenarios and I've got a few gripes that are absolutely driving me crazy.

1) Number eighteen. Climb a tree? Seriously? I'm guessing this answer sounded the best in the realm of speculation, but any survival manual that advocates this would be pulled. By climbing a tree, you're exponentially increasing your chances of serious injury, and you're wasting energy you would be relying on while waiting for rescue. Starting a fire was the answer I went with initially, because it is correct, as a plume of smoke is about as good a signal you'll be able to give off without a flare gun on hand. Get a fire burning hot enough, throw some green vegetation on there, and at the very least, someone will be sent out to investigate a potential wildfire. As noted in the explanation for the "correct" answer, the number one objective is to stay put and be rescued, and this is how it's done.
I would say that of the choices offered climbing a tree was the best bet. If I was actually lost I would start walking down hill until I found a stream or a road and then follow it but that wasn't an option.

Also: Survivalist - 80% going through the questions just once.

I'd like to see what sources were used making up the questions. Many of them certainly seemed like they werent the right answer, but if it werent at least a little counter intuitive, there wouldnt be much point to it. If a little common sense were enough, most people would get survivalist.

That said, I have no real relevant training (other than that as a biology student and alchemist in training i know a fair bit about urine).

I'd also like it if there were some way i can boost my score by actively choosing to live in a safer area. No major floods, fires, storms, wind or large animals. As long as you leave a bucket of water outside so the snakes dont try and get in, and stay out of the local drug wars, there isnt much here to die of. and not a huge dependence on the outside world either.

If we learned one thing from Fallout, surely it must be how much better off we are to be in a vault that sustains us, than living out in the shit, relying on our own abilities.

First try was A Warning To Others, second and third was Happy Camper, Fourth was Survivalist.

Some of those questions were a bit misleading, and entirely dependant on the situation. Also as many others have said, the soldier one was a bit off. Aren't soldiers trained to be able to survive in the wilderness?

It was still a fun quiz though.

EDIT: Also the urine one, you would need to drink even more water because the body will be using more water to dilute the building levels of urea. Considering dehydration is the opposite of what you want in a survival situation, your better of with boiling rain water.

The answer to question 11 is WRONG. Many studies have been done to debunk the myth that a large amount of your body heat is lost through your head (ie: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/dec/17/medicalresearch-humanbehaviour )

The myth comes from a US army study that put soldiers in arctic conditions with full survival suits without head cover which led to... them losing a lot of body heat through the one part of their body that was uncovered, not surprisingly.

Think about your own life, how often do you go without a shirt versus without a hat indoors or out? Most people seem to find that leaving their torso uncovered makes them a lot colder than not having a hat on 24/7.

Yeah, the reason they get that high figure is that most of the time people are wearing sufficient clothes on their bodies but their heads are bare, so that's why X% is lost through the head, it's not properly insulated whereas the rest of the body is. If it's cold out you really, really need to make sure your body is properly wrapped up, head is a secondary concern. A lot of these questions were kinda off. That's to be expected in a fun web quiz designed by a bunch of website staff using the internet.

Seriously, a hat is better than a jacket?? I understand that most heat escapes from your head and everything, but the rest of your body is important too if it's cold and you only have a T-shirt. Besides, you can pull the jacket over your head if it's big enough, or has a hood ya know. A lot of jackets that I have include hoods. I resent getting that question wrong!

Happy Camper, 65%. Ugly.
A child? Really? I call b.s! A soldier has all kinds of training for shit like this; a child wouldn't know the first thing to do and would likely be eaten by a grue. And I always thought that urine was your body removing things like excess sodium and whatnot.
Oh well. No use complaining; I got what I got.
