Team Fortress 2 Does Deus Ex

A host of cyberpunk gear straight out of the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution can now be found in Team Fortress 2, including weapons, cybernetic body upgrades and those wicked sweet yellow shades.

Shacknews reports:

The magnificent eight Manno-Technology items include both weapons and clothing, which surely is all you need for a complete cyberpunk experience, except for a pumping techno-industrial cyberpunk. The Sniper gets a swish sniper rifle, and the Spy is armed with Deus Ex HR's glorious gigantic revolver. The lucky Engineer, a man not shy of a little mechanical augmentation, gets a glorious-looking shotgun and an electrifying new forearm augmentation.

For those more interested in cyberpunk for its clothes (Sunday cyberpunks, we call 'em in my syndicate), there's a cybernetic arm for the Heavy, a Nanobalaclava for the Spy, stylish Sarif Industries baseball cap, and, of course, Adam Jensen's very own mirrorshades, the Deus Specs.

Aside: For those of you who don't speak British, "swish" means "totes rad." The sniper rifle is totes rad.

Now that you've heard about the new items (and presumably have clicked over to the Team Fortress 2 website [http://www.teamfortress.com/deus-ex/] to read the clever community relations copy and scope pictures of the gear), you're likely wondering how you can get your fleshy human mits on this stuff, huh?

The easiest way is to pre-order Deus Ex through Valve's Steam service. That will unlock all of the new items, instantly transforming your favorite cartoony first person shooter into something out of a Neal Stephenson fever dream.

If you're a bit more patient however, you can also cobble together these virtual status symbols via the Team Fortress 2 in-game crafting system. Obviously that's going to be a bit of a grind, but it's also the cheaper option for those of you who have earmarked your "cyberpunk shooter" budget for things like food and rent.

On a slightly editorial note, can I just once again point out how rad those shades are? If any of you wanna buy my love this Christmas, now you know what to look for.

Also, those tiny cocktail weiners. Those lil' guys are my only vice.

These were all pretty sweet when I saw them last night, but I still can't help but notice that they seem to have given up on the "make it go with the 50s-ish style we have going" guideline.

I'd pre-order just for this. I'm getting a great game, AND a load of awesome swag for my favourite shooter? Why not?

Pitty I'm getting Deus Ex on the Xbox. I'd love to have this stuff in TF2. Don't think I could be patient enough with the grind to craft them.

Yeah I was told I was getting the Beta for Deus Ex:HR that I could get these items, but the shades just aren't the same unless they're implanted into your face...

This reminds me...
I must pre-order Deus Ex before it's too late. And yes, the shiny looks good on the TF2 guys as well.

The gear looks good, but it's a shame you can't do the poses like those three above are doing. That's the icing on the cake

Was that ever a guideline? There's Halloween stuff from 2 or 3 years ago floating about.

Yeah it was. Somewhere in the community weapons guidelines or something. I can't be arsed to find the post that says it right now, but they definitely used to be worried about the visual style.

I preordered Deux Ex the night before this went live. Was a nice surprise.

Incidentally that header image is misleading - both the shades and the Heavy's augmented left arm are 'body' items so they can't be worn together. Wee bit annoying.

Also the sniper rifle is cool.

That all looks pretty awesome (although the only weapon I can really see myself using is that new sniper rifle).

Anyway, definitely preordering Deus Ex now that I have the money since I dropped my BF3 preorder.

*ahem* You've really got to watch out for those slang terms.

A gay sniper rifle, is it? Almost as bad as having a game out called Spaz...

Valve announced that they're planning to add another Misc slot, so it might be possible in the future!

Also the problem with the Engineer items is they both fire scrap metal.
... now, I'm not very good with the Engineer but from what I've seen you NEVER have enough scrap metal.

AND NOW YOU USE IT AS AMMO?
Yeesh.

Aye but it's not there now, making that image false advertising. I should sue! Get lots of money! Spend it on the Steam store!

I'm guessing that Engis with that setup are going to be far more combat oriented than their standard brethren. I saw this an hour or so ago in the Store and now I am sad that my PC can't run HR and I have to craft these items and wait longer. But at least I have it pre-ordered on the 360. Yay.

I rather like the Dues Specs they seem to work with the TF2 models rather well.

The shotgun gives you metal when you deal damage with it, so if you're smart with when you fire it and always do at least 60 damage per shot, you're not losing any ammo. The secondary zapper thing is more designed for defense, zapping away grenades and rockets heading for your buildings, it's assumed that you'll be right next to your dispenser to replenish your metal while using it.

You're a bit out of date there. As an adjective, it's currently more accurate to say it's used to describe things that are of a high quality, fancy, sophisticated or erudite.

Don't fret about your confusion though. It's rather difficult to Google latter-day colloquial adaptations.

Good attempt though.
