Team Fortress 2 Gets Halloween Update, First Boss Enemy

Valve announced its "Second Annu-Hell Scream Fortress Hauntdead Halloween Special" complete with a new map, items for sale, and TF2's first boss.

Last year, the TF2 team at Valve released a "Pumpkin Patch" [http://www.teamfortress.com/pumpkinpatch/] that threatened to scare us dead. Keeping with the trend, this year's fantastically punny TF2 update adds even more goodies to its multiplayer shooter. On the new map, called Mann Manor, the game's first Boss can be killed by anyone and has the chance of dropping some phat lewts. The Horseless Headless Horsemann looks downright terrifying and killing him will earn you the "Sleepy Holl0WND" achievement. The TF2 update is available right now and is, of course, free of charge.

The announcement is written in a comedic style reminisicent of a Simpson's Treehouse of Horror. Regarding the Horseless Headless Horsemann: "Where is his head? Where is his horse? Where are all the Draculas? We know the answer to one of those questions: They're still right behind you!"

Valve asks us to enjoy its Halloween Special, if we dare. "Enjoy the update ... to the change of address form at the Post Office, because your new address is the cemetery because you've been buried alive! [sound of your parents paying for an expensive unnecessary funeral]"

The Horsemann is a long lost member of the Mann company. It's not clear which one but the TF2 website has a grave marked Silas Mann. When you click on the grave, you are brought to a family portrait torn asunder. What does all of this mean? That's up to you to find out, and then discuss ad nauseum on the forums.

I quite enjoyed TF2 as a very well balanced, class-based shooter, with a huge helping of humour. As a wannabe MMORPG, with loot and grinding though... I'm not too sure...

Its great. I have one particular great story on the Escapist UK server.

In this map drops random gifts. They drop very infrequently, and drop in random areas. And since the map is a CP map, there are times when it drops in your area, the enemies, and in-between. And couple in the Horsemann with lots of speed, many people chose the Scout as their class.

Well I was a humble Engineer, and I moved up my sentry to near the next cap point after we heroically took the first one. As I plopped down my beefy level 3 sentry on the ground, the gift appeared right in front of me. The enemy also saw it as well, but my mighty sentry was able to keep the squishy Scouts at bay, allowing my manly Engineer self to walk on up and grab it without a hitch.

It was fun time.

Damn, I was hoping this might be a sort of single player element but I guess not.

I thought that the virtualy indestructable australian man was tht 1st boss. All well.

OT: I dont know all that much about TF2, so this could already exist, but I hope this leads to a juggernaught-esc mode.

This is the best map that exists on tf2 yet imo, I like the whole boss concept, it provides a nice variety. Also, got his axe yesterday, to anyone who is wondering whether they should craft it.....Do it, its definately worth it. ( 2 refined, 1 skull cutter, 1 unusual metal).

Damn my boss obsession! I'm actually tempted to get a gold membership now so I can fight that guy.

Your server is empty, this disappointments me as I wanted to show off my shiny new pumpkin head!
