Teamwork Required to Unlock Bonus Bad Company 2 Vietnam Map

A classic map from Battlefield Vietnam is making a comeback in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-Bad-Company-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001QXNBJM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291647877&sr=8-1]

DICE has announced that the upcoming Vietnam expansion for Bad Company 2 will actually contain five maps, rather than four. If you want to play on that fifth map, however, you better be ready to work with your fellow players.

The fifth map in the pack will unlock when players accumulate 69 million team actions. Team actions include healing and reviving other players, resupplying them and repairing vehicles. The good news is that team actions in the main game count as well, but the bad news is that each platform seems to be on its own separate count, which means that less-populated platforms might be looking at a lot of work to unlock the map. The map itself is a remake of the Operation Hastings map from 2004's Battlefield Vietnam, which will be familiar territory to the long-term PC Battlefield fans, but totally new to plenty of others.

The Battlefield games are at their best when people are playing as part of a team, so the stipulation of team actions will hopefully mean that even people who aren't buying the expansion will benefit from the sudden increase in teamwork. There will undoubtedly be some people who try and hurry the process along by setting up games to do nothing except farm team actions, but with tens of millions of actions to perform, it's still going to take a lot of time and teamwork to get the map.

The Vietnam expansion for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available to download for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 21st

well this will be a good boost of morale for players wanting to unlock a decent map. I wonder if it will have the old nam weapons and planes or will it contain the more modern ones?.

What a great idea. That's really a good way to get people like me who haven't played in a while back in the game.

But people are probably already making bets on how long it's going to take to unlock. For 360, I would say 3 days tops.

I would say possibly a few days more because don't forget Blops is out and its practically the new fad in online shooters i mean heck my friends on xbox live are all playing blops but when nam comes out i'll be going straight for it.

That would take alot of team work... Not unless someone finds a workaround to it... *wink wink*

This seems like a good idea. Encourage some actual teamwork instead of just giving everything right away. But it's not going to change too much if I had to guess.

I like this. Remember they did something similar with Battlefield 1943. X amount of kills unlocked that dogfight pacific plane map, which was awesome.

Great idea, and I hope they can do similar events at later stages as well.

All I can say here is that I'm glad I always play as either Medic or Engineer.

Can't wait to get my hands on this new expansion. Everyone agrees that it won't be a huge boost to teamwork either way, right?

It's a shame, since Operation Hastings was not the best map from Battlefield: Vietnam (that honor goes to Operation Irving).

It's still 13 maps short of the original. Just like bf 1943 is 17 maps short of '42.

Not to mention the weapons, vehicles, armies left on the cutting room floor as well...

It's probably more likely a reference to 1969, which is when Nixon came to power and started to secretly bomb positions in Cambodia, rather than a sexual position.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised DICE didn't got with 66 million, as Operation Hastings took place in 1966.

They did this with 1943. A very shrewd move to make it team based actions that get it, rather than kills. Don't know if it will make people help out more, but it will at least annoy people that want that map, but prefer the lone wolf!
I personally enjoyed Cambodian Incursion from the original BF:V - it made for some intense fights, and awesome multikills!

Though that may be (as I'm assuming DICE hasn't released a statement regarding that), it still reflects poorly on them since most peoples' minds will go for the pervy option.
I think that reflects more poorly on other people, to be honest.

I hadn't even seen that until some posters pointed it out.

This sounds like a pretty grand idea. I wish there was more to entice players to do teamwork-orientated tasks in COD but there isn't a specific class system and reward feedback loop that would do so. And it's a shame.

Exactly, the immature ones are the people make the "lol 69" comments, not DICE.

PS. Can't wait to get my hands on these bad boys:

I was just reading about this on the Battlefield site. This is the right way to do a fifteen dollar map pack.
