Tech Question: speed adjustments for record players

I'm old and back in the day, any decent turntable had a light shine on a pattern on the edge of a turn table platter. You adjusted it until the pattern looked correct. Today, so many expensive turntables have no such adjustment and my kid wants one!!!! Is the concern about this obsolete? Is this light and pattern thing old school and no longer relevant? 1702557305367.png

The one she likes has, "integrated motor speed sensor system". Never heard of it before.

No, it's still in use, just usually on the higher end models that have a direct drive motor. In fact, the record player you provided a picture of has it;
The pattern is those series of dots with the sensor being that little post just to the left of the manufacturer name. The player automatically adjusts the speed itself.

I asked a knowledgeable buddy of mine and he answered that "Strobes don't matter so much any more". We did end up getting may daughter something else until she can buy a house and then we'll get her the one she wants that does not have the strobe. It is belt driven and has some kind of internal speed adjuster.
