Teen Sex Assaulter Jailed, Played Too Much GTA

Perhaps taking one too many scenes from Grand Theft Auto seriously, a 19-year old sex offender has been jailed indefinitely.

Ryan Chinnery of Kent, England seemed to enjoy two things: videogames and sex. These two interests may have unfortunately collided when Chinnery started a string of violent sexual assaults against at least four ladies he found on streets and forced into sexual acts. Chinnery defended himself by saying he was home playing Grand Theft Auto at the time of the accused attacks.

Judge Philip Statman believed there was a "worrying mirror of conduct" between Chinnery's actions and those in Grand Theft Auto, a game with "scant respect for women."

Chinnery denies that his ownership and enjoyment of Grand Theft Auto affected him, yet Judge Statman concluded, "While it appears the defendant does not accept it influenced his conduct on that particular evening, it could not have helped him, I would have thought, in all the circumstances of the case."

While Judge Statman didn't want the case to "enter the controversy as to whether such conduct is encouraged by pornographic material and video games such as Grand Theft Auto," he found "a worrying mirror of conduct between that which pornography presented to you and that which you have carried out."

The final sentence against Chinnery included a minimum of four years imprisonment with parole at the discretion of the parole board.

The presentation of playing games as an enabler for violence continues to be of scientific interest [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/87174]. While similarities between Chinnery's stalking of women on streets from his car and the actions players may take in GTA to find hookers exist, he could've found inspiration for his actions from any number of sources. Despite the media he enjoyed, the link between it and his actions remains similar, not causal of his behavior.

Wait he personally denied that it was because of GTA... so there is no story in my opinion. He just happened to say that he was playing the game. Also, did I miss the secret 'rape the woman' mission? Otherwise how the hell could he be 'influenced'?

One of the things that I hate about the UK is chavs and 'wiggas'. It makes me embarrassed to be English/British some times. Grr... these kind of people should be sterilised at birth to stop them breeding and making 10 others of themselves.

What the hell is with all these stories lately? Are Videogames the worlds favorite whipping boy again?

"Hey, how about that genocide in Dar-"

"AAAHHH BA BA BA! Videogames! Lets chase Videogames!"

PS: Pretty sure that whole GENOCIDE thing is still going on...

Part of me wants to make a joke about how he looks, but I think the major part of me wants this git locked away from the rest of civilised society. In a category A jail.

Strike that, put him in a category B, and let nature take it's course.

Nice to see the Daily Mail stick to reporting the facts instead of jumping on the 'gaming will make your children into junkie rapist pimps' bandwagon.

Oh, no, wait, that's just me fantasising.

100GB of porn... what the hell! Keeping porn is one thing that I've never understood, the Internet is so vast that anything that you want to see you can easily see withing 5 minutes. My friends, when using my laptop, often ask me 'ah so where is your secret porn folder', to which I reply that I do not have one. The call bullshit but I honestly don't have one.

So wait, for once a person doesn't blame a video game for his actions...and they decide to go ahead anyway?

...frickin' impossible

This is such horseshit. He said he was playing the game when the attacks happened. It's an alibi, not an excuse as to why he did it. Jesus, somebody mentions video games, and the authorities instantly jump on blaming them for everything.

Somtimes, just watching porn is good entertainment. Never done it for two solid hours, but it's not so unthinkable. You don't always have to jerk it every time there's porn on, you can just watch and enjoy.

A number of my brother's friends do the same thing when they're over. It's good for a giggle for about ten minutes. Two hours though? ;s Strikes me as a tad odd.

It's from the Daily Mail, probably the most ridiculous paper in the whole of England. That report isn't worth the time it took to read it.

EDIT: That said, I don't know how ridiculous every single paper that is produced in England. But it probably is. It's just trashy and ridiculously right-wing propaganda-ey, and because it doesn't have pictures of naked women in it (like all our other tabloids seem to...) people take it seriously. They wouldn't know what objective reporting was if it played too much GTA and assaulted them!

Dude's a chav. He could spend his entire day playing High School Musical 3 Senior Year Dance! and Mario is Missing and he'd still be a worthless fuckwit.

One glance at that picture makes me indefinitely certain he's guilty of influence. Good riddance, heretic.

This article hurts my head on levels I didn't think were possible.

Also 100GB of porn isn't hard to do. The only time I've maintained a huge collection of porn is when I was going to the SIU school in Piney Point Maryland. I'd trade it off for snacks and cigarettes.
Supply and Demand ftw.
