Telltale's Batman Game Will Finally Update The Telltale Engine

Telltale's upcoming take on Batman will bring with it a vastly improved engine.

While we are all big fans of SXSW convention [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/features/galleryoftheday/15375-8-More-Franchises-That-Would-Make-Great-Telltale-Games], Telltale revealed that the engine will be "Very upgraded" from past Telltale games.

It continued to say that it would be a "More significant step up from past games on a technical/creative level than previous TTG games," and that lots of "new" TTG stuff would premier in Batman.

As for the game itself, unlike a lot of other Batman games, Telltale Batman would focus a bit more on Batman's alter ego: Bruce Wayne. Telltale says the game will be about half and half Bruce and Batman, with some scenes actually allowing you to choose if you want to play them as Bruce or Batman.

As for the game's visual style, Telltale told us to expect something a lot more comic-y than photorealistic - think The Wolf Among Us.

Fucking finally, I think a big part of the reason I've been quicker and quicker to criticise Telltale's games - aside from them being rather formulaic - is the engine.

Cool. Now if they could learn to stick to their release schedule, or just not even announce a schedule at all, I'll be happier, because they are absolute crap at following it.

Cant think of a time where they actually released an entire "season" on time, and Minecraft seems to be the worst so far. They release the first 4 episodes within weeks of each other, which to me, seems like most of it was already finished, but then they end up taking 3-5 months releasing episode 5, which doesn't even have a concrete release yet, but it has been "promised" to release some time this month, but that promise was made barely after the first week of march, and now they're announcing something about it tomorrow.

It just really bothers me that each and every game, they say "We'll release an episode every 4-6 weeks" and then halfway through that game, they announce a new project, and everything gets stretched into 2-3 month waits. Minecraft is the worst though because releasing those 4 episodes so close together makes people (or at least me) that maybe they got their shit together and that when they use the term "Early 2016 release" we can expect the game mid February at the latest...but no. They announce the Michonne chapters, and then say nothing about minecraft for 2 months.

I'm super salty over telltale's now, because Tales from the Borderlands was so damn good, and actually found a way to make the choices you made actually matter somewhat, but then GoT and Minecraft were just been so disappointing, I don't know what to expect from them.

A Batman quicktime event game?

Joy.

I assume it will be episodic, even though the report doesn't seem to say. Would it kill Telltale to release a completed game? I wish they would try a format other than QTE-Interactive Novel.

I would just like for the disc releases of the games to actually have all the episodes on the disc. What was the point of them releasing a physical version of game of thrones with only 5 of the 6 episodes on it.

And I also hope that the choices matter. The ones in the first season of The Walking Dead didn't really do much. The end was essentially Mass Effect colours all over again. But season two really upped the ante as I found 3 distinct endings. I'm not sure if there were more or not. I was pleased because the journey for Clementine really had quite diverse outcomes. Of course, making a season 3 could be really challenging if they have to pick up all of the stories.

Thank god. While I love Telltale, their engine has been looking clunkier and clunkier lately.

Probably, since I"m pretty sure it's a marketing ploy anymore. Since nobody(in comparison to TWD s1 and WAU, which I'm still really ticked about them shelving) really plays alot past the first episode anymore but still buy the season pass.

And as much as I love Batman, Telltale have just become franchise hoppers at this point. Generic stories that seem to go over well because comedy can make even the shittiest things good(not saying they're bad, just that they've got alot of problems if they're writing their own stuff and not following something someone else wrote).

I'd honestly prefer to see pretty much anything else at this point. I love Batman, but there's alot of DC heroes that could do well or even better as an interactive story/western VN type thing. Imagine Martian Manhunter or even one of the fuckign Questions being the center of it instead of the World's Greatest Detective that I'll bet they'll just make a copy of the Arkham games.

I completely agree; they say "Oh we're gonna finish up Borderlands before releasing Minecraft" and I see ep. 1 of Minecraft before the end of Borderlands. Thaaaaanks, guys.

Not to mention we might be getting a third Season of Walking Dead instead of, I dunno, Season 2 of Wolf Among us when they left us with SUCH A BIG SEQUEL HOOK?

I mean, I like TTG but they're kiiinda flaky about the whole "release date" stuff. Which is kind of why I'm glad King's Quest 2015 isn't doing that. They go episode by episode instead of trying to promise "we'll have them out routinely by the way you should try this OTHER game!"

OT though: I'm still a little dubious. Maybe they'll make Bruce Wayne more interesting because the reason why people don't wanna play as him is because he's boring. Hell, most people like Batman because of the Rogue's Gallery so how is this gonna be more interesting if it's just the Bruce Wayne version of Gotham?

At least they're fixing the controls. I love my share of TTG stuff but c'mon.
