Temporary solution for Skyrim on PS3 (A fix for PS3 lag?)

So, I had avoided this problem a long time somehow.

But it seems the framerate bug was an inevitability. I was disappointed that around the time my savefile got to 10 MBs, I too was stuck with a jerky slideshow framerate.

Then I got an idea. It does this because it has to keep track of a lot of stuff. But, my save file somehow gets smaller sometimes. Then I remembered: this sort of problem happened on Morrowind on the XBOX too, and there was a fix: Don't leave corpses everywhere, and wait about 30 days in-game. Yeah, I know, it's frustrating, but hey, it really doesn't matter in any game since Daggerfall what month it is, so who cares, right?

In Morrowind for the XBOX, the loading times became atrocious, and eventually the game only actually loaded half the time, sometimes getting completely frozen.

And waiting 24 hours 30 times in a row, while it didn't get rid of coprses (You had to diligently click "dispose of corpse") it DID close doors, reset scaled dungeons, etc. Basically it cleared the cache, making all the junk that it kept track of go away.

So, I tried this in desperation in Skyrim. I hit "wait 24 hours", then did it again, then again, and again. Took a while, so I just popped in Men in Black and sat there watching. No sooner than Will Smith was suiting up for the first time and lo and behold, every dungeon was reset, every door closed, corpses faded away, and my filesize got to a mere 4mb.

And my framerate was solid again.

So, even though it's annoying, give this a try. Wait 24 hours 30 times, then start playing more. Tell me if it works for other people too.

That's a pretty great idea. I'll keep in mind for if the lag ever becomes a serious problem.

I remember having to do that, I also remember getting an endless bag in my house just so all my items laying around wouldn't freeze my game.

Skyrim is a lot larger though, would hiding all the bodies actually make a dent in the save file enough to get the game running again?

Corpses go away after a few ingame days. That's why you wait 24 hours 30 times.

Would have been nice if they had kept the remove corpse option or at least had them clear a bit quicker. Every time I leave a body to come back to it, its gone but if I have cleared creature bodies they never seem to disappear. I like the idea though and will have to try it out. Any idea if this clears out the extra weapons that get dropped by enemies and don't count as part of the body?

Makes sense. I remember a friend of mine telling me that the ore in dungeons resets after 30 days. So you should probably do it even if you don't have lag yet just to be on the safe side and to reset your dungeons so you can go in and ore and soul hunt... or if you just feel like killing everything again.

It clears almost everything the game has to keep track of in dungeons and outdoors. Not sure if it works on inns, stores, etc.

One of the very first things I did in Skyrim was to help the Stormcloak army mow down the guards of Whiterun. The corpses of the soldiers who fell in the Jarl's palace were gone soon enough - but their swords and shields are still littering the floor there!

I don't think it works like that outside, though.

Mine has been keeping the weapons left by stormcloak/imperial fights and vigilant of stendar/skeleton fights outside for what seems like forever. I got tired of looking at them and started just blasting them to the horizon with lightning.

This is pretty neat. Even though I've got this for the 360 and haven't really had any problems, I still hope it works for you PS3 guys. I remember how bad NV was on the PS3.

YOU ARE A FUCKING LIFESAVER!!! WILL THIS WORK FOR NEW VEGAS?!?!

I think it probably should. New Vegas used Oblivion's engine more or less, and I know that Oblivion had similar rules for cleaning stuff up.

I wonder why Bethesda doesn't just insert some code to purge stuff like this... Hell, maybe they are working on it, and it just takes a long time for them to assign some attribute to thousands of items.

First, OP you are my favorite person ever if this works, will have to try later, second, is there a way to dispose of the corpses in Skyrim? I never saw a button that would do that

I'm going to bump this thread because it needs to be seen. I am sure this is probably against this board's rules, so I won't be surprised if this results in a mod action, but given that I am getting word out for a potential solution to a big issue, I think an exception should be made.

Wow... i really hope this works.
And if it does, why havent Bethesda told people to do this as a short term fix?
