We have cute animal threads all the time, but never any "love" for the more terrifying or ugly of our heterotrophic mostly motile brethren.

What animals do you find to be terrifying or ugly? Hate a specific type of spider or snake? Secretly a fan of horrifying things and love how creepy or horrifying looking it is?

Think opossums are absolutely gross?

Post your thoughts here.

For me? I'll go with this guy.

I love how horrible it is. Same way I love horror games. I kind of like creepy things :D

My personal award for ugly-cutest animal is:

The mole rat!

I think it's a combination of the furriness, the lack of visible eyes and the giant teeth. What's more, they come in hairless varieties:

The naked mole rat!

Look upon it's ugliness ye beautiful and despair!

This one is ugly inside and out:

Origins unknown, possibly the result of extensive genetic experimentation with pig, ape and rat cross-breeding.

I love bats more than any person probably should love any one type of animal. One of the things I love most about bats as a whole is the insane variety of the bat world, and all the butt-faced...
Gargoyle-esque...
Alien monstrosities...
Out there are just as big a part of my love for bats as all of those cuddly mouse and fox-faced cuties. I don't really think of any of them as "ugly," though; each one is a perfect little ridiculous snowflake and I love them all just the way they are.

The same goes for pretty much every animal alive, actually, from spiders to deep sea fish. There isn't a single animal that I hate.

To me that would be the Blobfish (I'm pretty sure everyone has seen an image of that by now) and the Goblish shark.

This is a centipede that seems, to me, to have given birth to nightmares and fear.

It just looks like it might have been the thing that invented the willies, you know? And maybe poison. Or at least it was in the same lab.

And totally has my respect, in the same way as a moon bump, the concept of a 'wasp apocalypse', or a honeybadger trained in Krav Maga.

Pants peed!

Hmmm...This brings up a question.

Are the mole rats in Fallout, naked mole rats, or normal mole rats that just have that fallout mange other animals seem to have?

There's of course the beautiful little coconut Crab.

Yes, that thing exists, and it lives on land.
<_< That thing looks like a facehugger....

As for my entry, I pick the leatherback sea turtle.

I know what you're thinking. Why would you pick a sea turtle? Those things aren't ugly or scary.

The sea pig.

The blobfish.

The succalina (it bites off crabs' penises, replaces it, and then makes them release sexy girl crab pheremones, doomed to be violated over and over again...)

A kind of ant that plants its egg inside a live cockroach. Ew. And painful.

That one kind of hamaephageus bird that lives in the carribean.

The abominable snowerson.

Lets see lets see....AH, here it is. The Michaelus Moronidon. Native to Flint Michigan, this creature roams about eating garbage and roadkill. Interestingly enough, it regurgitates its meals into what it hopes will be Oscar worthy.
The Michaelus Moronidon is not to be confused with the slightly less ugly, but infinitely more fascinating, Gabicus Newelicus.

Best things is, they're so docile you can walk right up and grab one and wing it around like a giant clawed cuddly toy. They you can put it down and it'll just wander off like nothing happened. But stay out the way of those claws.

I don't think I'd be satisfied with just burning the immediate area, I'd have to incinerate the whole continent just to be sure. As an arachnophobe I am thankful that in most US states flamethrowers are perfectly legal.

As for a personal choice, spiders. Any and all of them. Camel spider, wolf spider, jumping spider, at this point we should go to the moon and Mars and burn the Earth.

That beast is not like what Kim Possible would have had me believe it was.

You should have included a picture of the naked mole rat from an angle where one can see what it actually looks like:

But since we're already talking about them, how about the...

My personal nightmare fuel though is pretty much anything from the deep sea...

Seeing as a huge number of freaky teeth seems to win out, I would like to point you in the direction of my good friend, the lamprey:

then of course there's these little beasties:

These delightful chaps take up residence inside a fish's mouth, attach themselves, and then feed on scraps as they are swallowed by the fish.

EDIT: Oh dear god, there's more freaky mouths.

Spiders. Any and all of them. I just don't like the way they move, how damn quick they are and how they get everywhere. Once I woke up to find one in my bed, it was not a pleasant morning and I've checked my bed for spiders every night and morning ever since. I also can't walk anywhere without some socks or slippers on, I get worried I'm going to step on one or one might crawl over my feet.

I find scorpions pretty damn terrifying too. I don't like things with pincers.

This site is supposed to be PG-13, you can't just go posting pictures of huge assholes like that :p
