Am I the only one who is a fan of these sorts of games? They are always pretty interesting, and almost all of them have some sort of failsafe to keep you from wasting your entire life away.

Games of this genre are usually RPGs(in my experience, at least) and many of them are comedies. The games mostly play on a point and click sort of way, but you usually have at least a little bit of control over what you do(such as using spells.)

My personal favorite is Improbable Island [http://www.improbableisland.com/home.php?], a comedy that focuses on the player's journey as they travel a reality show to shut down a machine called the improbability drive, which makes strange and improbable things happen.

Other ones that may be of interest are Kingdom of Loathing [http://www4.kingdomofloathing.com/login.php?notloggedin=1], another comedy that is just generally fun and more simple than Improbable Island, and Estiah [http://www.estiah.com/], which is a semi-serious fantasy game that doesn't take much time to play. It's a good one if you're in a hurry.

So does anyone else enjoy these games? Maybe you hate them? I want to hear your opinions, and maybe hear of a few games I haven't played before.

Oh man, I hate those kinds of things. Sometimes it's so worth it that I can't help but go North until my fingers are incapable of typing anything but that.

I liked the one in Fallout 3. Well, not really, but it was pretty funny to find a text based game in there.

Obvious exits are NORTH, SOUTH, and DENNIS.

Text adventures bug the crap out of me---always have. There are good browser games out there (Pandemic 2, just for starters), but text-based games? No thanks.

Ah, how I miss text-based adventure games. To think, back in the day, we were expected to have
imaginations and the ability to think abstractly.

Huh? Where was that one?
Hubris Comics. In the basement I think. One of the computers has a Grognak the Barbarian text based game on it.
