I don't think I'm ever not in the mood to play Smash Bros although my tolerance for how long that play sessions lasts may vary.

DMC4 and Bayonetta 1/2.

Nothing says a nice brush up like kicking back and actually feeling in sync with the madness that ensues. Especially with DMC4, though i've put quite a bit of time with that game. 2,000 plus hours might be a bit too mu-

... even a generation later, and i'm still in the mood.

For whatever reason, I just can't find another Tactical RPG that worked so freaking well for me as XCOM (I'm a console gamer so that doesn't help but seriously, if anyone has a XCOM-like game I can get for the console, I will be forever in your debt).
Have you played the original XCOM: UFO Defense? Yes, the graphics suck and it is a PC game, but it's cheap, really fun, and should run on an old laptop or whatever kind of PC you have around the house.
I have not. I've always considered going back and giving it a try but I just never did for whatever reason. I probably will eventually...probably......maybe........we'll see :D

Any Kingdom Hearts game[footnote]Except Re:Chain of Memories... 1.5 really solidified that fact...[/footnote]
Child of Eden
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Smash Bros. (GameCube or Wii U)
Rayman Origins/Rayman Legends
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Multiplayer with friends only)
Corruption of Champions

Honorable mention to most Sonic-based games (especially Sonic Riders and Sonic Generations), Smash TV, Rampart, Virtua Quest, most LEGO-based games, Persona 3 FES, Warriors Orochi 3, Pokemon and most Tales of games... My mood can vary if I start factoring in stuff like "time" and/or "completion", so even my non-honorable mentions could end up being honorable mentions and vise verse at any given time...

Mostly oldies. Fallout 2 is easily my favourite RPG ever and I come back to it all the time. Baldur's Gate saga always keeps me entertained and so does KotOR (2). As you can see, I really like RPGs. And I'm also always in the mood for some Bastion, not an oldie, but definitely a goodie.

For me, it would be Pokemon. A favorite during my childhood, and something that I have stuck to up to this very day.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people who play RPGs and JRPGs so casually, for lack of a better term. Not knocking them, I love me some RPGs hardcore. But I find them so immersive its hard to just jump right back in to one so readily. Like I have to develop quiet a head of steam to get through Pokemon or Skyrim or the like. I mean Christ, I logged 500+ hours in Fallout: New Vegas, but much as I love that game, that's like a once a year commitment because of how obsessed I get. Great games mind, but pretty heavy gameplay to just up and play.
But there ya' go, huh? Diverse interests. Love it.

The day I stop loving a quick round of deathmatch in Unreal Tournament 2004 is the day I've stopped loving fun.

I...hmm.

This would have been a much longer list when I was younger, but here goes-

Warframe (Mindless fun! With space ninjas!)
WoW (Goes without saying. Christ, it's been 10 years already.)
LoL (Ditto.)

And...bah. That's it for the consistent plays really. I'll throw on a game I loved very occasionally, but I usually play something I love for moooonths at a time, thereby draining a lot of the 'repeat' entertainment factor for later use.

I'll just list my "timeless games", the ones I never tire of no matter how many times I replay them:

Earthbound

Legend of Mana

Tomba!

Lately Spelunky has been getting a lot of play as well anytime I linger too long indecisively on picking a game to play.

Ironically for a predominantly PC Gamer, a lot of my always-in-the-mood games are on consoles.

Hmm I dunno theres no game I am always in the mood to play ofc sometimes I dont want to play any game at all. I suppose the ones I have gone back to the most over the years are SF2 (Turbo), Soul Calibur (DC) and FFVII. Its probably between FFVII and SF2 to be honest.

I am always in the mood to play the Batman Arkham games. Sometimes I just want to burn through Arkham Asylum seeing how quickly I can finish it since it is pretty linear and sometime I just like to go riddle hunting in Arkham City. I also just like beating up bad guys though I have never been a big fan of the challenge modes because I don't like being told how bad I am at the game. There is nothing wrong with Origins in my opinion but I never get the urge to go back to it in the same way that I do with Asylum and City.

Its not something I can always play but when I don't know what to play and I'm staring at my Steam library, I have found that booting up Brutal Doom and playing through a new megawad with the mod enabled is usually always at least time consuming. It gets tired after a few hours but it is easily the most accessible for me.

Also, to the OP: I really wish I had a disposition where I could play Bioshock Infinite in any mood. That game, while amazing, depresses the hell out of me and I have only been able to play it twice, once when first bought, and a second time with the DLCs for 100% completion. Both times I was horribly depressed afterward.

Also I like Spider Solitare, seems to run in my family because my mother and grandfather also seem to have the same affliction, although far more severe than mine.

Those tend to be relaxing games for me.

Games like Dark Cloud 2, Threads of Fate, Mega Man 2 or 3, Mega Man X, Katamari Damacy, Heroes of Might and Magic II or III, Diablo, Torchlight, Street Fighter IV (or III, or Alpha III) are all games I can come back to because they feel very "Plug and Play". Dark Cloud II has a story, but eventually becomes a bit sandboxy. And the rest I can pretty much just jump in, play for a while and get out.

Games that have more of a linear commitment, or extensive side-questing are a lot harder for me to come back to.

One Finger Death Punch for me. When I'm not feeling focused enough to play games like Dark Souls or a stealth game, and not feeling patient enough to play something more slow-paced like Sunless Sea or some JRPG, then One Finger Death Punch provides the cathartic and simple fast-paced fun I need.
