Gotcha!
No, this isn't a thread revealing the announcement of an Avengers game.

This is more of a thread for me to declare my shock at the complete lack of an Avengers game. Not that I would want a cheap tie-in game, but I'm incredibly surprised that the only upcoming Marvel game is the Amazing Spider-Man tie-in game. (I don't count the facebook/social games, though a few of those have been released in the last couple years, including one that does tie into the Avengers movie.)

So with Marvel fever likely to be at an all-time peak, what are your thoughts/hopes for a future Marvel game? Do you want an Avengers game, possibly the one that was previously in development? Do you want another sequel to Ultimate Alliance? Marvel vs Capcom 4? An entirely new franchise altogether? A Scar Jo Black Widow dating simulator? A Hawkeye Wii/Move archery game?
What say you?

How do those games usually sell? Maybe word has finally gotten out enough that they generally suck.

I'd rather have single-universe (probably not the right word, but you will forgive it because you aren't pedantic and you know what I mean...right?) game. I just hate shared universes. Makes me cringe. I'd like to have another good X-Men game (I really enjoyed X-Men Legends 2), a good Spider-Man game, and so on and so forth.

It's hard to pick.

Hawkeye definitely could make for a good game around using stealth & open-combat in large, open-ended environments against legions of bad guys, and the different arrow types could make for some good sequences & levels. And factor in some good boss battles you could have something.

Though I think a full-on Avengers game could work if the following rules are met:

-The AI MUST (and I stress this) be able to its fair share of the work in-game
-Every Avenger has their usage in combat, and with some creativity, there can be some more ways to use your characters
-Levels should be built to accommodate multiple approaches, strategies, etc. (Hulk smash, Hawkeye arrow-in-the-knee-and-throat, Black Widow stealth & gun combat, Thor lighting strikes, etc.)
-Allow for co-op multiplayer component where everyone can be the Avenger of their choice
-Epic bad guys, epic boss battles that actually feel challenging & big in scale
-(Optional) Allow for character switching in-game on the fly if need be

I'm waiting for them to make Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 personally, though I hope they cut down on some of the shitty story telling of the second game. This first one got it right in that regard, "The story is going to be silly and dumb no matter what we do so we might as well not take it 100% seriously and just find excuses to show different aspects of the Marvel Universe".

They are planning an Avengers videogame though, not sure if it will follow the film storyline though. Although I do wish they made Ultimate Alliance 3 like fappy said. Only this time include every single goddamn Avenger as a playable character in every version of the game. Seriously, The Incredible Goddamn Hulk is only available on the 360 version of UA1?!

If they can manage to make a tie-in game as fun as Wolverine Origins than I'm all for it.

I'm sure they'll get on it though, to rip off the kiddies.

I think there would be very little chance of that being a good game. There's just no way they could design fun gameplay around all those varied abilities.

THQ said they where going to stop making IP tie-ins as part of their "strategic realignment". Apparently they where not profitable. A lot of interesting looking games where cancelled, like that one in the vid. Being able to play a first person superhero game would have been pretty cool.

that's not completely true, as some of their licensed games were among their top sellers.

The problem appears to be that figuring out the difference between a good idea and a bad one is too hard for THQ. Like, for example, maybe you don't do every licensed property you can get your hands on.

Name one superhero tie in game (Except spiderman 2) that didn't suck horse ass.
It would be better if they made an avengers game that had no connection to the movie at all.
Captain America: Super Soldier was really good. I liked it better than Arkham Asylum/City. I've heard good things about X-Men Origins, but haven't played it, myself.

I'd love to see just everyone in a new Ultimate Alliance. Just combine the rosters of every version of UA1, UA2, and X-Men Legends 1 & 2. Then throw in about ten more X-men and about 20-25 more other random heroes. I want to play as Hercules, She Hulk, Pixie, Mercury, Shadowcat, the Runaways, Rocket Raccoon, Black Cat, and Hulkling at the same time. I don't care how they justify it. Thanos could combine with Galactus and give their power to Dr Doom who possesses Magneto who then steals and an ancient artifact and gives it to Mysterio making him a living god. I'm just sick of playing as the same handful of characters for so often. UMvC3 showed a slight willingness to think outside the box with character choices, and I want to see them take that idea to ridiculous extremes and to finally give me the chance to play as all the lesser known characters I actually want to play with

OMG. Serioulsy? A first person shooter?

I'm really glad THQ's in the tanks.
The concept gameplay looks very slow and unpolished, but I could actually see someone else (and more competent) making good use of it for a non-licensed game.

It'd just need a different focus.

I wouldn't be interested anyway. I would be interested in a Black Widow beat 'em up game, but only if Scarlet Johansson were to provide the face and that sexy husky voice of hers. Ah, Scarlett...

I'm pathetic.

The iron man bits, anyway.

I don't know how much I like the idea of Hulk having to hit any enemy more then once with his fist.

More like a team-based, first-person brawler. Only iron Man really shoots stuff.

I think it looks awesome. Much, much more interesting then most tie-in games.

Too bad it got canned.
