The Batman Officially Finds its Director

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1384/1384503.jpg

The Batman, after much searching, finally has its director.

After Matt Reeves [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/ben+affleck] would get the job, but those negotiations apparently fell through. The two sides must have continued talking, because Reeves has now officially signed on to The Batman.

Speculation said that Reeves initially dropped out due to creative differences, but is now also being given a producer credit - which may have been what sealed the deal. Affleck remains on as a producer and the lead actor.

Matt Reeves has a good track record as a director to this point. He directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloverfield], and the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes.

The Batman does not currently have a release date, although at this point it would be unlikely to be released before late 2018 or early 2019.

I look at the new Planet of the Apes movies as hidden gems so I take this as good news.

Why is Batman wearing a jacket and goggles? It looks so wrong. I've pretty much ignored the new version of Batman completely, so when I see the outfit I'm still slightly repulsed.

Vision of the post-apocalyptic future.

Anywho, this is a bit of good news in the unyielding stream of worrisome news coming from the DC films world, this and the rumored Nightwing movie.

I had heard rumours of Affleck wanting to drop out before, so it is no big surprise for me. Anyway: let's see who this Reeves is:

Haven't seen it. From what I've heard it was so-so to positive.

Have seen the Swedish original. Didn't care for it. It's my understanding that the readaptation was a good movie, but then again they said the Swedish original was good, so I don't know.

Oh, this one I have seen. And this brings massive hope for the franchise; from my understanding the major problem of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was that it was an incoherent mess, and the characters barely registered as character, instead relying on external lore in order to actually bring meaning to the characters. The great thing about the Planet of the Apes reboot was that they actually showed how Caesar developed, and displayed it on screen. The actual plot of the movie was fairly straightforward and easy to follow, but it was a story told well in that capacity. This tells me that the director's approach will be similar in this movie, and getting down to the basics of storytelling sounds like a solid approach if the last film was incoherent.

...oh wait, I'm thinking of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, not Dawn. Never mind, I haven't seen that one.

And neither that one.

Best of luck to Mr. Reeves, regardless of my non-exposure to his work.

Never seen it. I always just changed the channel when it was on TV.
Did you like Adam West Batman? If you do, than you will like Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

The original is a great movie which the adaptation totally misses the point of, in that it is a horror movie, while the original is a horrifying movie.

Grimdark is better than Snip:
Warhammer is a juicy source of mock-value, just like 4Kids' Yu-Gi-Oh. I have way more respect for something I can laugh with than laugh at, and even the worst MCU movie (Thor) fits the bill just fine.
Bah I have no respect for Marvel Thor, he's a mockery of actual Norse Mythology.

For "hidden gems," they're not very hidden per se.

Camouflage?

Eh, I'd put Iron Man 2 as the worst MCU film I've seen. Thor's the second worst for me.

I've never understood the collective freak-out over bat nipples.
It had to do with the designs laid down by the director, Joel Schumacher, who is openly gay. People thought he was trying to make Batman gay.
