I don't understand how asking for proof of where Obama was born is racist. You have to be born in the US to be president, no matter what color your skin is.

You could argue that isn't been asked and answered, or is no longer in question. That's fine. Argue that the burden of proof has been met. No problem. But racist for asking? That's just plain lazy. "I don't like that you ask those questions, so I'm going to just call you a racist, and hope that you go away."
Sure, and every WHITE president has had a bunch of mouth-breathers asking whether he was born in Sweden, Scotland, or Croatia.

Oh, wait, that didn't happen.

But the first time a black man takes office, it JUST SO HAPPENS... Sure, buddy. Lemme guess, you start every other sentence with "I'm not a racist, but..."
In fairness, some of us ask of every politician that they prove they are who they say they are. As for me, if his citizenship was good enough for Harvard and the student loan people, its good enough for me.

On to the other point, I share Bob's feeling about space. I was very, very sad to see it die such a quiet death here in the states. I guess most Americans have forgotten all the wonderful things the space-program gave the world. Velcro, microwave-ovens, high energy burst communications, modern computer technology, better jet engines, medical science, geologic science, climate science (for better or worse), advanced metallurgy to name a few. What is sad to me is that when compared to other 'inventions' and 'discoveries', those that come from the space program cost less per creation than those created by 'divine inspiration'. Alas, I fear now our future choices for space exploration will be a British music baron and the iShip from Apple.

Me, Oxford English, Websters, Random house, Collins English & every other user of the word seem to thinks its an adjective.
Yeah, I just checked it after posting. Lesson learned.
Thats OK we all make mistakes. Of course most of those mistakes can be avoided by checking what we are about to type long before its typed.
This is basically the first time I've done the spelling/grammar N*zi thing, but the time frames represented by 'about to type' and 'long before its typed' do not match up.

Also: http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail89.html. Scalawag.
I think youll find its implied that I am asking the individual to think before typing. I find myself broadening the category of individual to respondees.

Also: Dodgy looking link. You've misspelled scallywag.

Actually Gordon Brown received alot of flak for being Scots.

I'm very happy they cut the space program instead of the things they normally do. Like, say, education. And lets face it, the space program was only created for a stupid dick waving contest between the US and Soviet Union, there wasn't any practical application to any of it.

What would we do on Mars? Have a picnic and go home? Motifs like terraforming and colonization either assume Earth as a whole is stable enough to support such endeavors or the planet is no longer habitable and we need to find another planet. Neither are a reality right now and if a country can't effectively support its own people and wars, why would it try to make it to the stars? We haven't even figured out how to make things go the speed of light, which would be the only way we could even begin to flirt with the slim possibility of finding other life forms in the galaxy (just because they're out there doesn't mean we'll ever find them) and then, again, how would it help anyone at all?

You get PAID to review movies to nerds and gamers and you complain about this, Bob? Sounds like you could use a little more perspective. Shit sucks right here in the US, we've got a criminally poor education system and a bloated, ineffective government diseased with lobbyists and religious fanatics. We haven't even begun making progress on getting away from fossil fuels and you still want to aim for the stars? Get real.

Seriously?
Your pissed that they are cutting the funding for a Space Program that has been in decline for a while now and has directly cost the lives of several of of your fellow human beings, so they can use the money where it will be needed in the future.
I wonder if you will have the same viewpoint if the economy of the US goes right in the shitter, causing various companies, say for example The Escapist, to fire their employees and then suddenly your out of a job because Obama put more money into sending someone into space than into fixing the economy. I doubt it.
Keeping a failing space program running is not the responsible thing to do in a global recession.

The most annoying thing about this is that your being stupidly short sighted. Your a child in his high chair looking at the candy and saying "I WANT IT NOW!" when your parents are struggling to put the potatoes on the table to keep you healthy because they can't afford it. They didn't say, "No thats it forever, no more space travel."
They simply said "We don't want to burn the cash right now, others can pick it up later if the time is right."
Getting through the boring potatoes will make the sweet candy all the tastier and it's why grown ups order the main course of the meal first. Hopefully some day you'll be able to sit at the grown up table, but with each hate speech you post I realise we wil be waiting a while longer for you to pull up a chair, which is a shame, because when you open your mind to a serious discussion, your a great champion of logic and reason.

So how about growing up Bob?
Grow up and get over your childhood, like other healthy adults, no one has a perfect childhood but we get over it as we grow up, its part of being an adult. Granted, some have have more to get over than others, but the ones that do get over it have a better life because of it.
Grow up and get over your idea of walking on Mars because you saw it in a movie as a kid and it was your only escape from your childhood.

Even if your going to claim that your childhood was darker and more traumatic than anyone can possibly imagine, do you really think you should be in the public eye giving out your opinion which has obviously been warped by your childhood?

Your fellow humans are dying of disease and famine all across the planet you share with them. Surely a narcissist like you would want to be the better man, rise above those that made your childhood your personal hell and make the planet a better place. But no, you just have your selfish dream and you are less of a person because of it. And you think you can just blow it off because people were a dick to you as a kid and now you think its your turn to get even?

Part of me hopes this video is a joke.
oh for fuck sake the "we are not ready yet guy". news flash! HUMANS WILL NEVER BE READY NOR PERFECT. PEOPLE WILL KILL PEOPLE AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO GIGANTIC ASSES LONG AFTER "UTOPIA" HAS ARRIVED. space is the FUTURE OF THE HUMAN RACE WITH UNTOLD POTENTIAL. hell on our moon there is A CHEMICAL THAT PROMISES UNTOLD ELECTRICAL ENERGY THAT CAN SUPPLY US INDEFINITELY (helium-3 not to mention gases that will be used after helium 3 is obsolete). yet YOU want tell the people who want space travel to be possible to "grow up"? the potential of space can fix all of our problems. we have reached the point of no return and staying on earth is A DEATH SENTENCE TO THE ENTIRE RACE. sure people die here and there but PEOPLE DIE ALL THE TIME AND WILL CONTINUE TO DIE NO MATTER WHAT COURSE OF ACTION YOU TAKE. how the FUCK is unlimited energy selfish? how is knowledge gained about our stance on the universe selfish? how the HELL is discovering new minerals that can help us selfish? space benefits the whole human race and its the "we are not ready crowd" that holds us BACK. staying on earth will only destroy us. you are aspiring to become perfect when perfection is out of our grasp. we need space. its either go into space and thrive, or stay on earth, stagnate and die. no exceptions. no alternatives.

by your logic we should have never colonized the Americas because we "weren't perfect" in Europe. grow up, discovery was driven by the shitty life we had back home. why do you think everyone left for America when they heard it was better over there? why leave space for "perfection"? and doom us to isolationism and ignorance only to die off when the ticking time bomb in our DNA goes off. its a real threat, look it up.

this post may seem mean to you, but saying someone who wants to go space "childish" is the one that is short sighted. Earth will kill us. We need to leave the cradle one day. You cant stay in it forever or the sun will go supernova and kill us all. That isn't counting space threats like Asteriods hitting us and killing humans the same way it killed the dinosaurs.

We need space, Earth wont last forever. It also fixes a lot of our problems faced today. You want to fix the problems on earth? well space and its benefits fixes most of it yet you marginalize it.
I know humans will never be perfect, infact I didn't mention anything about waiting until humans being "perfect" before we look at space again. I was talking about the economy being in a better state.
Your right, space holds alot of potential, but its only potential until we can use it, unlimited energy is great... but how are we going to use it if we get it tomorrow?
That type of power is something we have to build towards, but thats something the world can't fund right now.

As for me telling moviebob to grow up, I wan't him to get over his childhood because its holding him back, listen to his rant again, does he mention the scientific reasons to go into space or does he ask how will we explain ourselves too the science fiction greats?
I know which one I heard.

Your arguing on the part of science, which is great, I'm honoured to be part of the same forum where people consider science over dreams, but moviebob isn't arguing on the part of science and most of the people defending him are, they just follow the enemy of my enemy route and attack the people who want him to be more realistic about going into space.

And this is where I'm internally conflicted, because I hate bob's rant about how we should be doing it because space is a cultural step forward into the stuff of dreams but I want to go into space for the science and want to back the "lets do it for science" crowd, the people in the same camp seem to be where most of the flak at me in this thread is coming from.

As for the other guy who pointed out the scientific benefits of going to space, I agree, alot has been done for humanity by going into space, but im think that eventually we could have come up with that and kept our feet on the ground. But that would be discussing heinsight which is pointless.

Sometimes, albeit rarely, I am reminded of how vast the space outside our planet and the scope of it all is. The agonizing feeling of being so small in the universe isn't nearly as painful as the realization that we aren't even attempting to explore it.

Here here, Bob.

I don't get it, even if you're not a bleeding heart think about it logically, Earth has so much more resources than mars, why colonize a hostile environment like the moon or mars that's so fucking far away when we have a non hostile environment we have barely begun to fill!?

Fact remains that while the Space Shuttle was designed to be cheaper than conventional rockets, it actually was about five times as expensive per flight. Biggest waste of money of the last century. At least the Russians were smart enough to ditch their shuttle project. The Shuttle project has held back space exploration, not helped it.

Still a shame that the Space Program has been put on hold. I want to be able to live on the moon.

Its very hard to beleive that america as a whole doesnt truly care anymore about anything but money. Coming from a proud canadian I cant help but see all of this just by gosip and hearing it aloud just how bad the USA has gotten. I cant help but agree with everything Movie Bob has said in this video in almost everything he has done regarless either its about movies or a topic. Im brand new to this site but I've been watching this sites videos for a long time. Thank you Movie Bob if you read this, your words are very powerful and I only wish good luck in your fortune. I have a feeling if you were to take over Obama's place things in America would probebly get better since you actually have a real thought prossess which the American government doesnt. Again i could be wrong about America all together but one thing is for sure, America needs to be reset. Thank you again Movie Bob, you are a true roll model =)
Well, it is the people that voted for Obama that are to blame. He said during his campaign that he was going to cut funding that NASA was using on projects like the new and improved shuttle program.

They dismissed it, they voted him in, and now we aren't going to the Moon again, or to Mars.
Personally I dont even think that you can really blaim the people, again Im not up to date with how they actually vote for a president but it being the USA government that is in charge of it, they can litterally do whatever they want in the USA and we cant do anything about it. Ok i know this topic is overused but the Twin Tower incident is my biggist example and leave that were it is. My point being that they can do what they want and we as people are none the wiser, I mean seriously, George W. Bush, -_- enough said.

I cannot for the life of me understand why you quoted me. I get your argument, but it seems totally unrelated to the quote of me.

Whether or not something provides unlimited energy is not an opinion......

And your view of America is pretty bigoted, the people of the country don't feel that way, in fact we're sick of the fucking airport security measures put in to prevent terrorism

And now in my eyes Bob is a bigger, more selfish ass than before.

Unlimited energy? Come on, that's a gross exaggeration and you know it
technically no. the chemical and gases are so abundant its practically free energy.
Well yeah, it's free.....but it's on the moon.

You do realize it's not exactly cost free to go get it right?

I understand your desire to want to live in Star Wars more then in the real world. I'm also glad that most politicians don't share that dream.
I understand your inability to see that the world can be a better place than it is. I really wish less people shared it.

Seriously though, Star Trek is pretty full of shit, but to deny the importance of space is essentially to deny the entire universe and everything thing in it. Letting other people have it while we go around picking fights and worrying about immediate profits is something that we are going to regret. A lot. Probably in my lifetime.
I don't deny the importance of researching space. I don't deny the importance of researching anything. But science is something that has to be done rationally, and this argument is mostly based on emotion. Of course space is important, but why the hell send humans there? We know what's on Mars: nothing that is of use. Sending them there would be exciting as hell, sure, but it's a big pricetag just for some excitement. I mean: going to the moon was just a dick-measuring contest. The moon sucks! It's cold, there is no oxygen, and you have to shit in a vacuum cleaner.

Besides: "letting other people have space"? What the holy hell? Are you suggesting that the sole people who are entitled to THE LARGEST AND MOST EMPTY THING WE KNOW, something that is literally all around is, are the Americans?

There is this big shiny thing in the sky called the sun. We can get a shitload of energy from that without having to pick it up 400.000 kilometers away

I think youll find its implied that I am asking the individual to think before typing. I find myself broadening the category of individual to respondees.

Also: Dodgy looking link. You've misspelled scallywag.

I am truly a sad and terrible person. Thank you for enlightening me as to my errors. I shall now go cry in my bathtub till the water turns cold. (Also, the spam detection system detained my comment so I didn't get a chance to test the link [I'll remember to use 'Preview' in future]. Scalawag is an accepted alternative spelling) (Any grammatical or spelling inconsistencies in this post are intensional)

Well yeah, it's free.....but it's on the moon.

You do realize it's not exactly cost free to go get it right?
well you do need to invest money to make money. you can't exactly get product for free right? well not legally anyway. the estimated cost for helium 3 would make it more valuable than gold. even a mere pinch of the stuff would be extremely valuable. it may be "expensive" but that cost to get there would be blown away from the sheer value of the product.
That's the thing though, the only thing I've heard is "unlimited energy"

How valuable are we talking here?
