Oh jeez bob.
You opened up a can of worms this time.
Im not even going to bother reading the past 450+ comments.
I know its a bunch of PC fanboys bawing and raging at you ;-)
way to go...
The irony in making a blanket 'fanboy' assumption when Bob did an entire episode on why 'fanboy' assumptions are retarded.
Having read a few posts that entirely what the discussion is....

the "Im not even going to bother reading the past 450+ comments" Was everything after page 2.
So it wasn't an assumption, its happening.

Should've just condensed that and said, "PC Gaming got borgified with consoles, get over it" and saved us six minutes.
Please do not use this as a criticism :( i COULD condense the entirety of Descartes meditations into "you exist" and save you reading it, but that would be silly.
It's the journey through knowledge that gives you understanding of a concept, only once you listen to another argument, with the background and reasoning behind it that lead them to their conclusion, that you can make an informed and reasoned reply.
In short, don't do that. :p

I realize this may come across as childish nitpicking, but i hear this kind of argument allot and it frustrates me. You are by no means the worst offender, but debunking a videos topic through summary seems a little silly.

Haha, I'll get in on the flames. The only thing PCs have over consoles is the mouse/keyboard combo and the ability to constantly upgrade their hardware. I'm not even sure the latter is that much of an advantage considering how much you constantly have to take care of the hardware and how much money you have to spend on it. I think not having the hassle is a HUGE advantage. Snob all you want how I'm not an intellectual because I'm not into messing with my computer constantly. I just can't be bothered to spend that much energy on something that's just for entertainment.

I like RTS games, but I can't afford a several thousand dollar PC every couple of years. I have Star Craft II, and I admit that it's an AWESOME game, but I literally can't run it on my crappy laptop so for me, Halo Wars is better. Plus I don't think the added difficulty of the controller is necessarily a bad thing always. It makes leader-powers a lot more fun. And who's to say that they couldn't make a version of Star Craft for the consoles? Last time I checked the 360 has USB ports so I can use a mouse and keyboard. Hell, the next Xbox could run windows just so you could play PC games on it. WOW, then PC games would REALLY be boned.

Oh dear.

This is going to get ugly.

All I'm going to say here is that it seems kind of... odd that he's putting this video on the Escapist, a site with an unusually high proportion of PC folks.

Also, he's probably right.

Now I'm gonna run before the knives come out.

honestly people, would you rather play game online, lag-free
or would you prefer to pay $15/month or $60/year to game for 10 minutes then wait a good 5 for host migration... and listen to small kids whining the whole time...
PS3 is free and lag is dependant on your internet connection...
in most cases it's dependant on the internet connection *glares at wii*

and yes I know the PS3 has free service, I love that about it!
I was glaring at the more popular 360 when I said that
well then that just sucks for anyone who can't afford a good internet connection then doesn't it :,(

more elitism makes me sad.
I have DSL and can play/host games BETTER than my "friends" with cable
(it ticks them off)

but by the wii having crap internet
well

a "friend" and I were playing StarCraft online then for kicks we (he) decided to play Brawl (back when he still liked it... I despise it still to this day)

LAGGY AS ALL HECK!

we tried other games and well... out of 20+ games we tried online the only non-laggy ones were Dr. Mario Online RX (duh) Mario Kart Wii (he tried that one), and The Conduit (which was too full of cheaters for me to keep playing)

mmmm no

PC's will be far more powerful than consoles for at least another generation, but by the time the console has become as powerful as a computer I can see them replacing quite a bit of PC's, yes. The thing is that it wouldn't actually make a difference, since to the average person the only difference between a console and a PC is the user-friendlyness. And the outside look, I suppose. So what you're saying is essentially irrelevant.
What does it matter if Starcraft 4 will be played on a ps3 with a mouse and keyboard rather than on a pc with a mouse and keyboard? Wouldn't make any difference to me.

So essentially what's being said is that the games PC gamers like to play are now on the consoles that they probably already own if they are a gamer.

So essentially anyone complaining hasn't really thought it through and is probably slightly stupid.

Good episode Bob, interesting yet factual perspective.

Going by your logic, you should also claim that console gaming is dying. The concept of a dedicated gaming machine is no longer applicable. Your consoles are turning into PCs while wanting to have more features. They're currently mediaboxes. The moment they include productivity software, they're just going to be close garden type of devices no different than the iPad.

PC is not about a box with mouse and keyboard. It's about a computer that caters to an individual's use. The definition is likely to expand. A laptop is a PC as much as a tablet is. Tablets by definition is just another form factor of a PC. The PC is going mobile.

If your phone can do word processing, would it be called a PC? If your laptop can make wireless phone calls, would it be called a phone?

Maybe definitions are blurring. Maybe your video is trying hard to be brilliant. I've heard better discussions about PC from other sources. Nice try with the trolling though.

This video seemed like flame bait. That can be good.

PC games are rarely exclusive anymore, but one thing to consider is that all those devices that have pc functions [phone, ipad, notebook, console], I could buy all 4 and carry/stash each in it's one niche, or I could just stick to a PC.

Another big concern for me is accessibility in the sense of what you can do with 'your' product. You buy a PS3 and then Sony sues you for putting software on it. If you build your own PC and put a freeware operating system on it then there's not much anyone can tell you you -can't- do with it.

I travel a good bit so I've been reduced to one of those brick desktop replacement laptops, but for the time being we still need the horsepower of a PC to run some of these games coming out. So until cooling gets good enough that we can pack top of the line GPUs in centimeter thick notepads or switch to Cloud Computing (sketchy, with the current state of DRM being as tedious as it is) we need the muscle.

Interesting thoughts though.

no console is a matched to a true gamers PC because it can run all games/videos out there including the ones for the consoles.
oh and a true gamers PC is a kind of chimera made of a PC/laptop, huge screen, a few terabytes, wireless mouse and keyboard or controllers if you want. consoles just cant match to that yet....

So many things wrong with this video, where to start...

First, Facebook gaming is its own thing, its a different market if its powerful enough to kill PC gaming then it would do the same to console. Next Laptop is a PC.

As for motion controls, notice they are only used for the Casual side of video gaming? I yet to see them used on any of the more hard core shooters, and guess what hard core gamers don't want motion controls. So I don't see the mouse and keyboard being replaced. Also sure you can plug a keyboard and mouse in a console, but guess what hardly any games allow you to use them.

Another problem with consoles is their games look like shit compared to many PC counter parts, and the frame rate is just terrible. I tried Black ops on the console, and I could not believe how ugly it was, as well as the terrible frame rate.

If PC gaming does die I piety the game we are going to be left with, because all the first person shooter innovation came from the PC. Online, DLC, wager system, oh yeah was done on counter strike how long ago?

Look at what happens to the battle field games, once they went to console many features were cut, the bad company games were a step back not a step forward.

But hey if Pc totally goes I hope you like your COD clones, with little or no innovation, have fun without PC games to rip off anymore.

You speak about Cloud, but I don't think that is going to work, here in Canada we have internet caps, and I think its only a matter of time before this happens to the majority of the United states. ISPs are going to wake up to the fact that they could be making more money, they can and will charge people who are doing everything on the internet, such as playing games online or having them streamed to you, or watching movies on say Netflicks. You don';t think this will happen? think again this world is all about greed.

Last, you never needed Alieanware to do Pc gamming, its calling putting together a custom system. You know buying your own Motherboard, ram, Video card, CPU. If you don't have the know how to put it together have a store do it for like 15$

As for the Hardware debate. In no way shape and form can your phone, your laptop or your console provide the same high fidelity experience that a modern desktop can.

Desktops have better visuals, audio and overall performance. Heck the basic gaming desktop of today is easily a generation ahead of the console. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.247185-Crytek-PCs-Are-a-Generation-Ahead-of-Consoles]

If graphics, sound and data storage did not matter, we would all still be playing Space Invaders.

Edit: Corrected generation gap and provided a link to the article. My old memory is not as good as it used to be.
Anybody click and read through this whole list? About a third of these titles are, in fact, not exclusive to PC. And if it's supposed to impress, I'd hate to have to type out a Ipad exclusive games list. Whatever.

If you take a look at this video as a whole and actually listen to what is said instead of having a knee-jerk reaction against an attack on your box of choice (consolers can be equally as guilt of this, BTW), you'll hear something ring pretty true here. Gaming is changing, and it's changing away from what people consider to be PC gaming: big iron processing and graphics combined with keyboard-and-mouse controls.

I think the mouse is what is actually dying in gaming: they're the biggest loser in the new mobile landscape. Yes, I know you can plug a mouse into an XBOX or a laptop, but why would you want to? Touch and motion controls are increasingly going to replace the mouse as the pointing device of choice, and that, in turn, is going to change the types of games that get made. Either Civ VI, VII or XIII is probably going to with something other than a keyboard and mouse, and you know what, it'll probably still be a great game.

Technically, PC gaming isn't really dead.
Sure, the way we use a PC and how much we use it has changed, but not way we play it. I play games on my computer daily. I know people who continue to play endless hours of games such as Minecraft, Warcraft, Starcraft, and all other crafts there may be. How can you say PC gaming is dead when there's still people who buy AND MAKE PC games?!?!?
Yes, many gaming traits that used to only belong to PCs are being used by other consoles. Yes, the way a computer is interpreted is being challenged, and will continue to be challenged. But does it mean that PC gaming itself dead? No, of course not. It's still a growing medium to this day. Understand that people still use this medium because its ALIVE: Not just because people still play these games, but because more of these games are being built and continue to grow and develop themselves.
Movie Bob, I know you just enjoy challenging people's opinions if only to make yourself a little bit more known to people, but I have to say this is taking it in the wrong direction. You can't make an opinion without knowing all the facts about your opinion, otherwise you're just making accusations. Its like saying that the US Government is dead because congress is split in half by two opposing sides. Are they split in half, well yes, but that doesn't mean the government ITSELF is dead, it just means its divided.
Now, I respect what you have to say, and believe me when I say you have a great way of saying it, but this isn't true. PC gaming is alive and well, no matter what technology it takes its form of.

MovieBob made it pretty clear that he doesn't include laptops as "PC's", so in that respect PC's haven't been seen in my family for the past few years (so yeah, pretty dead).

But i do consider my laptop to be a personal computer, it's mine and i have all my PC games on it (and i don't really play MMO's, nor do i play "social games"). My major argument for PC gaming, remains the fact that it's still the most efficient way for me to play strategy games on (Total War, mostly), since no controller provides the kind of rapid and precise control a mouse and keyboard does. But maybe even that argument will be void once motion controllers provide the same, as MovieBob suggested.

I can't wait for cloud gaming to become mainstream and commercially viable, because i'm tired of spending a fortune on my PC, only to have it become obsolete within a few years. Of course, a high enough bandwidth has to become mainstream as well, before it becomes possible for most people to be able to use cloud gaming (without having to deal with serious lag, and possible internet cut-outs).

EDIT:

Forgot this one (reminded while reading posts): Yeah, ppl have mentioned how you can plug mouse and keyboard into most consoles nowadays, which would make my "only pc controls are good enough for Strategy games" argument void. Except not. For me, with two other siblings who play videogames, and two parents who don't (but enjoy watching the news on TV), console gaming is a shared experience, where you have to wait your turn and sometimes even make deals in order to get access to your console games. This would be true of the desktop PC as well, until we got a second one (creating a total of three gaming rigs), after which our parents got their own laptops (making the desktops exclusively for the kids to play with), and finally now we each have a laptop of our own.

For me, my laptop gives me access to games whenever i want, since the PS3 in my and my sister's apartment is connected to the only TV (which people will use for other things than gaming), making it a general entertainment rig that everyone has to share. There is a total of three bedrooms, that are usually filled, so lots of people not very happy about hearing people's heads being blown off when they are trying to study/work/eat/talk/read/sleep (small apartment, one of the rooms is right next to the living room).

So bob, your argument is that the PC is dying because everything is becoming a PC?
Okay...
Thread winner. But really this vid was not up to Bob's usual standard and seems like a naked troll vid to generate hits.

For those in doubt (like bob) PC does not = desktop PC's. PC means an IBM compatible, which in turn means anything running a 8086 derided CPU / code. So that includes Laptops, and atom powered tablets. That also means you too Mac owners. I cannot take seriously a vid from someone who does not understand this or make clear why he is using a different definition.

It demonstrates a lack of understanding of the subject which is disappointing from a usually very good gaming commentator. Which begs the questions of why kick an obvious hornets nest without having all your facts straight. Which goes back to my second sentence above.

A while ago PC just meant personal computer which could have been a myriad of devices. This definition if applied today would mean anything you use to do computing on as well as gaming, is a PC.

Hence the dumbness of topics like this as how can you say something is dying when you can't even agree what the thing that is dying actually is. But I am disappointed as this video instead of moving the discussion forward with new idea's just seems to be aimed at inflaming old arguments. I expected better from Bob.

bandwidth cuts are coming, this whole idea of Cloud will never happen, unless you the consumer are willing to pay though the nose for bandwidth. I would love to subscribe to netflicks But I only have a 60 gig cap, if I want more I have to pay way more, its already 42$ a month, and if you are using Netflicks or doing digital distribution or steaming your game to your player by cloud that is a huge amount of Bandwidth.

Daniel Floyd answered the question of "Is PC gaming dying?" in one of their videos, to which he said "I may not be on the top of the world but its far from dying."
